When a window unit is the right choice

  1. 1

A room with no outdoor unit space

Some rooms have no wall facing a suitable space for an outdoor unit. A window AC is the practical answer: one unit in the opening cools the room and expels heat directly outside.

  2. 2

An annex, staff housing or storeroom

Annexes, staff rooms and warehouses need real cooling without the cost of long copper and cable runs. A window unit suits these spaces well when the right opening exists or can be made.

  3. 3

An existing window of the right size

When a wall already has a window opening that matches the unit you have chosen, the frame fits straight in without cutting new concrete. We confirm at the survey that the opening suits the unit and the wall carries the load.

Who it's for

  • Need to cool a maid's room or home annex

We survey the opening or proposed wall in the annex, fit the unit in a secure frame and seal every gap so no hot humid air enters the space.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Send a photo

WhatsApp us a photo of the opening or the proposed wall and your district, so the technician arrives with the right frame and fixings.

  2. 2

    Site survey

On site the technician measures the opening, checks the wall, confirms there is a suitable power point near the unit, and agrees with you on any changes needed before starting.

  3. 3

    Fit and seal

We fit the frame level, set the unit with the correct outward tilt, then seal every gap around the frame so no hot air, dust or humidity enters.

  4. 4

    Start-up and handover

We run the unit, check the cooling and confirm condensate flows outward, then leave the space clean and show you how to clean the filter.

  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.

What sets this district apart

Al Thaghr is a south coastal zone very close to the sea, with mixed residential buildings from villas to medium flats, and many residents pick window units for spare rooms or spaces unreached by central split lines. But the coastal location means very high humidity and salt-laden air causing rapid corrosion in regular metals, so marine-grade anti-corrosion materials are essential, airtight sealing around the frame is vital to stop moisture and salt entering behind the unit, and drainage needs extra care to prevent pooling around the building.

Al Thaghr lies in south Jeddah near the seafront, a coastal residential zone of mixed buildings with trees and garden spaces.

Most Al Thaghr buildings are villas and flats with reasonable outdoor space, and window frames here need close inspection for existing salt corrosion.

The AC setup in Al Thaghr

  1. 1

Window units in spare rooms of villas

Coastal villas in Al Thaghr often fit window units in rooms far from the main entrance.

  2. 2

    Window units in sea-view flats

Sea-view flats install window units to avoid obstructing the view with split-system outdoor units.

  3. 3

Frames exposed to salt corrosion needing regular inspection

Coastal buildings in Al Thaghr see rapid salt corrosion on metal frames, so regular inspection and maintenance is essential.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Thaghr

  1. 1

Check the frame for salt corrosion before our visit

Look for white spotting or red rust on the frame and glass before installation and let us know of any existing damage.

  2. 2

Ensure safe access to the window

Make sure the window can be safely reached from both inside and outside for installation and later checks.

  3. 3

Clear space around the window and its external base

Remove furniture and items around the window, and make sure the external area below is clear for safe water drainage.

FAQ

Questions about Window AC installation

Can you cut a new opening in the wall if there is none?

Yes, if no suitable opening exists we can cut one. At the survey we check the wall type and thickness and look for columns or cables that might be in the way, then agree the best position with you before any cutting begins.

Why does the outward tilt matter on a window unit?

A window unit produces condensate on its indoor side throughout operation. If the unit sits level or tilts inward, water pools in the base and runs down the inside wall. A slight outward tilt sends that water to the back of the unit and out, away from the wall and furniture.

How do you seal the gaps around the frame given Jeddah's climate?

Jeddah combines high heat, humidity and salty sea air, so sealing materials must hold up in those conditions. We use insulating and sealing materials suited to the opening and wall type, and the survey determines the right choice based on the gap size and wall construction.

Does a window unit need its own power point?

A window unit draws a high current at start-up, and sharing a socket with other appliances strains the wiring and trips the breaker. The technician checks at the survey that a suitable socket is close to the unit position, and if one is not there we explain what is needed before installation proceeds.

Does the weight of a window unit affect how it is fixed?

Yes, the unit's weight directly affects how the frame is fixed and what support is needed. A concrete wall requires different treatment from a brick wall, and a wide opening needs more support than a narrow one. The technician decides at the survey what fixing method and materials suit the unit and the wall.

The sea salt is very close, will it damage the window unit quickly?

Yes, salt accelerates corrosion in standard metals, which is why we use marine-grade sealant and materials, and recommend annual cleaning of the unit and frame.

Humidity here is very high, does that affect the unit's performance?

High humidity raises the cooling load and speeds mould growth, so we recommend occasionally venting the room and cleaning the air filter monthly.

Is the window unit exposed to strong sea winds?

Yes, strong sea winds can affect it, so we ensure it is firmly secured and regularly inspect the brackets and mounts.

Water and salt could damage the building behind the unit, how do you prevent that?

We seal every gap with marine-grade sealant, set precise outward tilt for fast drainage, and fit a drip channel to direct water away from the structure.
