Central AC for apartments

Apartment central AC in Al Khumrah

In Al Khumrah, south Jeddah, fitting central AC to flats accounts for the hot coastal setting and good ceiling heights in modern blocks. Alrabih's team routes the distribution system efficiently and shields pipes from salty air and dust.

When central AC makes sense in your flat

  1. 1

    New flat before finishing

The finishing stage is the right time to install central AC. The ceiling is open and walls are ready for copper and drain routes, so there is no need later to cut plaster or damage finished surfaces.

  2. 2

Occupied flat where splits fall short

If splits leave hot and cold patches, or the noise bothers you at night, central AC distributes air evenly and hides the unit away from the room. A site survey decides whether your ceiling height allows it.

  3. 3

    Your unit disturbs the neighbours

In apartments, neighbours hear unit vibration through shared ceilings and walls. We choose the indoor unit suspension point carefully and use flexible collars on the air outlets to absorb vibration before it reaches the building structure.

Who it's for

  • Living in a furnished flat and want to replace splits

We survey your ceiling void to see whether a concealed unit fits, then run copper and drain without disturbing the existing décor.

  • Buying a flat in a building under construction

We coordinate with the finishing stage to run copper, drain and ducts before ceilings and walls are closed, so every route stays fully concealed.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Ceiling and route survey

We measure the available ceiling void, decide where the indoor unit hangs, map the copper route and find where condensate drains without causing damp. The survey decides whether one zone or more suits the flat.

  2. 2

    Run copper and drain

We run insulated Mueller copper in the void above the suspended ceiling and slope the condensate line towards the building drain or an external outlet, so no standing water causes odour or damp.

  3. 3

    Fit ducts and outlets

We mount the indoor unit on vibration-absorbing hangers, route ducts to each room and place every outlet so air spreads evenly without blowing cold air directly onto anyone.

  4. 4

    Vacuum, test and hand over

We vacuum the copper line to remove air and moisture, check all joints, then run the unit and confirm cooling in every room before we hand over.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

Al Khumrah is a newly built residential district in the south with relatively new spacious apartment blocks, most units medium to large with decent suspended ceilings and modern layouts. Natural ventilation is limited due to coastal proximity and relentless heat, making central AC essential rather than optional. High humidity and sea salt speed up metal corrosion, especially in pipes and outdoor units, so we choose corrosion-resistant materials and stress regular maintenance.

Al Khumrah is in south Jeddah near the coast, a new residential zone that is hot and very humid.

Most flats here have ceiling-hung indoor units, with outdoor units on balconies or roofs, but all require salt and humidity resistant materials.

The AC setup in Al Khumrah

  1. 1

    Salt-resistant ceiling-hung indoor unit

The indoor unit is made of salt and humidity resistant materials, mounted from the ceiling with rust-treated brackets.

  2. 2

Ducts wrapped in salt and humidity insulation

All ducts are wrapped in salt and humidity resistant insulation, with condensate drainage fully separated from metal piping.

  3. 3

Salt-resistant outdoor unit on protected balcony

The outdoor unit is salt and corrosion resistant, positioned on a balcony sheltered from direct wind and salt spray.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Khumrah

  1. 1

Ensure adequate ventilation space around the outdoor unit

Check that the balcony or outdoor unit location has good airflow from all sides to prevent overheating in this hot climate.

  2. 2

Coordinate with management on routine maintenance schedule

Agree with building management on a three to four-month maintenance cycle to inspect the outdoor unit and ducts due to coastal exposure.

  3. 3

    Approve use of salt-resistant materials

Confirm building management agrees to salt-resistant pipes and materials, as this may affect the initial budget.

FAQ

Questions about Apartment central AC

Is there enough ceiling space in a flat for a central unit?

It varies between flats. Slim ceiling cassettes need less void depth than full ducted units. A site survey measures what is available and decides the right type; if the corridor ceiling is too shallow we look at a storage room or bathroom ceiling instead.

Is one unit enough for the whole flat or do I need more?

It depends on the flat's area, room layout and how much sun each side receives. Two- and three-bedroom flats can sometimes work with one unit and well-planned ducts; larger flats or those with separate zones may need two. The survey decides.

Where does the outdoor unit go when the flat has no large balcony?

Options include the shared roof if the building rules allow it, a facade bracket away from neighbours' windows, or the balcony if it can take the load. We review the building's rules before recommending any position.

Jeddah's air is very humid; does that affect the condensate drain?

Yes. In Jeddah the indoor unit produces more condensate because of the high humidity. We make sure the drain line has enough fall, that the horizontal run before it drops is not too long, and that the outlet does not conflict with other flats' drainage in the building.

Can the flat be split into two zones with different temperatures?

It is possible using two separate indoor units or by adding variable-flow dampers on the duct runs. The right choice depends on the flat's layout and the ceiling void available in each zone. A site survey decides which approach suits your room arrangement.

Does sea salt from the coast damage the central AC system?

Yes, we use salt-resistant coated pipes and fittings, and recommend an annual inspection of the outdoor unit and all piping.

The heat here is intense, will the unit handle it?

We select a high-capacity outdoor unit rated for hot coastal zones, and support ventilation around it to keep efficiency up.

Humidity is very high here, does that affect power consumption?

Yes, high humidity adds load, so we pick a unit with adequate capacity and focus on efficient excess water drainage.

Is routine maintenance more critical here than elsewhere?

Yes, the coastal setting calls for maintenance every three to four months to clean ducts and outdoor unit, and inspect metal parts for corrosion.
