Central AC for apartments

Apartment central AC in Al Murooj

In Al Murooj, far north Jeddah, dense modern apartment blocks require central AC that distributes cool air efficiently without wasting power on unoccupied spaces. Alrabih's team plans the runs to balance pressure and flow across multi-room flats.

When central AC makes sense in your flat

  1. 1

    New flat before finishing

The finishing stage is the right time to install central AC. The ceiling is open and walls are ready for copper and drain routes, so there is no need later to cut plaster or damage finished surfaces.

  2. 2

Occupied flat where splits fall short

If splits leave hot and cold patches, or the noise bothers you at night, central AC distributes air evenly and hides the unit away from the room. A site survey decides whether your ceiling height allows it.

  3. 3

    Your unit disturbs the neighbours

In apartments, neighbours hear unit vibration through shared ceilings and walls. We choose the indoor unit suspension point carefully and use flexible collars on the air outlets to absorb vibration before it reaches the building structure.

Who it's for

  • Living in a furnished flat and want to replace splits

We survey your ceiling void to see whether a concealed unit fits, then run copper and drain without disturbing the existing décor.

  • Buying a flat in a building under construction

We coordinate with the finishing stage to run copper, drain and ducts before ceilings and walls are closed, so every route stays fully concealed.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Ceiling and route survey

We measure the available ceiling void, decide where the indoor unit hangs, map the copper route and find where condensate drains without causing damp. The survey decides whether one zone or more suits the flat.

  2. 2

    Run copper and drain

We run insulated Mueller copper in the void above the suspended ceiling and slope the condensate line towards the building drain or an external outlet, so no standing water causes odour or damp.

  3. 3

    Fit ducts and outlets

We mount the indoor unit on vibration-absorbing hangers, route ducts to each room and place every outlet so air spreads evenly without blowing cold air directly onto anyone.

  4. 4

    Vacuum, test and hand over

We vacuum the copper line to remove air and moisture, check all joints, then run the unit and confirm cooling in every room before we hand over.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

Al Murooj is experiencing rapid residential growth, with tall, closely spaced apartment blocks and very modern designs. The ceilings often have a tight suspended void, and the gaps between units are very narrow, so noise and vibration travel fast between adjacent flats. Central AC must be designed with very high precision to avoid pressure loss in long ducts and to ensure cool air reaches all rooms evenly without disturbing neighbours.

Al Murooj sits in Jeddah's far north, a district of tall, densely packed apartment blocks with very recent architectural development.

Most new flats in Al Murooj require long air runs to distribute cool air evenly, and may need a booster fan if the distance is too great.

The AC setup in Al Murooj

  1. 1

Indoor unit in corridor with rigid metal ducts

We use sturdy, uniform-gauge metal ducts to maintain consistent pressure across the long distances between the unit and rooms.

  2. 2

Optional booster fan for very large flats

If the flat is very large or the run is very long, we install a booster fan to ensure even distribution of cool air.

  3. 3

    Sunshade over the outdoor unit

In Al Murooj where summer heat is intense, we mount a shade over the outdoor unit to reduce heat absorption and boost efficiency.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Murooj

  1. 1

Open the suspended ceiling or confirm easy access

Confirm before the visit that the suspended ceiling can be opened easily without damage, and that the void is adequate for running ducts and pipes.

  2. 2

Pinpoint balcony location and main drain point

Tell us where the balcony or roof space is for the outdoor unit, and identify where the flat's main drain pipes are located.

  3. 3

Coordinate with building management and neighbours

Inform the management and adjacent flats of the installation date, especially if it involves work in shared corridors or common roof areas.

FAQ

Questions about Apartment central AC

Is there enough ceiling space in a flat for a central unit?

It varies between flats. Slim ceiling cassettes need less void depth than full ducted units. A site survey measures what is available and decides the right type; if the corridor ceiling is too shallow we look at a storage room or bathroom ceiling instead.

Is one unit enough for the whole flat or do I need more?

It depends on the flat's area, room layout and how much sun each side receives. Two- and three-bedroom flats can sometimes work with one unit and well-planned ducts; larger flats or those with separate zones may need two. The survey decides.

Where does the outdoor unit go when the flat has no large balcony?

Options include the shared roof if the building rules allow it, a facade bracket away from neighbours' windows, or the balcony if it can take the load. We review the building's rules before recommending any position.

Jeddah's air is very humid; does that affect the condensate drain?

Yes. In Jeddah the indoor unit produces more condensate because of the high humidity. We make sure the drain line has enough fall, that the horizontal run before it drops is not too long, and that the outlet does not conflict with other flats' drainage in the building.

Can the flat be split into two zones with different temperatures?

It is possible using two separate indoor units or by adding variable-flow dampers on the duct runs. The right choice depends on the flat's layout and the ceiling void available in each zone. A site survey decides which approach suits your room arrangement.

My flat is large; is one central AC unit enough?

We determine this based on the flat's size and room count. A very large flat may need an extra unit or a booster fan to ensure cool air reaches every corner.

My ceiling void is very tight; can central AC still be installed?

Yes, but we may need to use slimmer ducts or reconfigure the ceiling space. We visit first to assess the available void and determine the best solution.

Does intense summer heat affect performance, and how do you handle it?

Far-north summer heat is intense. We select an outdoor unit of adequate capacity and install a shade over it to reduce direct heat absorption, which improves cooling efficiency.

The electrical run from the panel to the balcony is long; are there any issues?

A long run may cause voltage drop. We recommend installing a voltage stabiliser near the outdoor unit to protect the compressor and motor.
