Who needs a specialist freezer room?

  1. 1

    Stock that needs sub-zero cold

Meat, poultry, fish and ice cream spoil if the temperature rises even briefly above the required level. A freezer room is built to hold that level continuously, not simply to cool.

  2. 2

    One room, two temperature zones

Large restaurants and hotels usually need a chiller section and a freezer section side by side. We build both wings with separate insulation, independent refrigeration units and an insulated inner door, so neither zone affects the other's temperature.

  3. 3

    Expanding an existing facility

If your current cold room no longer holds all your stock, or you need to add a freezer section beside it, we survey the site and propose the most practical way to expand with as little disruption to your operation as possible.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Site survey

We visit the site, learn the stock type and required temperature, measure the available space, and decide the right insulation thickness and refrigeration system from what we find.

  2. 2

    Design and supply

We draw the room layout including pipe and cable routes, then have the panels, doors and equipment ready before installation begins.

  3. 3

    Installation and connection

We fit the panels, insulated floor and door, then run and insulate the copper pipes, vacuum the line and pressure-test it before starting the system. Mueller copper in runs of up to 30 metres without welded joints where the layout calls for it.

  4. 4

    Start-up and handover

We run the system and watch the room reach its target temperature, confirm the defrost cycle works and the door seals properly, then explain the controls to the person responsible for the facility.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.

What sets this district apart

Abu Jaalah is a mixed residential-commercial district with mid-rise buildings and wider plots than Al Balad or Al Sabeel. Shops here have a bit more storage space, but the outdoor unit may sit near residents' windows or balconies on upper floors. Coordination with neighbours is essential, and power is usually adequate but may need a dedicated circuit.

Abu Jaalah lies in south Jeddah, a mixed residential-commercial district with mid-rise buildings and wider plots.

Cold rooms in Abu Jaalah typically sit in the lower floors of mixed buildings, with the outdoor unit on the roof or side courtyard.

The AC setup in Abu Jaalah

  1. 1

Medium-sized cold room for a single shop

Shops in Abu Jaalah have slightly more storage than downtown, which allows for a reasonably sized cold room for fresh goods.

  2. 2

    Freezer room with scheduled defrost

High humidity means frost builds up fast on the evaporator, so regular defrost cycles are essential.

  3. 3

Cold room door with raised frame and floor drain

In high humidity, floor drainage around the room must be clear so water does not pool, and the door needs a heated frame to prevent sticking.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Abu Jaalah

  1. 1

Obtain the building owner and neighbours' consent

Before installation, ensure the owner and neighbours approve the outdoor unit location and that the team may need multiple access visits.

  2. 2

Tell us the location of existing drains and pipes

High humidity means good water drainage is critical. Tell us about existing water pipes and drains so we do not install over them.

  3. 3

    Identify the right electrical circuit

If the supply is weak or unstable, tell us in advance so we can recommend a voltage stabiliser or protection circuit.

FAQ

Questions about Cold & freezer room installation

Why does a freezer room need an insulated floor when a chiller often does not?

At sub-zero temperatures the moisture held in a concrete slab freezes and expands, cracking tiles and lifting bases over time. A chiller room operates above freezing, so ice crystals do not form in the slab. A freezer room therefore requires insulated panels under the floor together with a vapour barrier that blocks rising ground heat and protects the structure over the long term.

What is the difference between electric defrost and other types?

Electric defrost uses heating elements fixed inside the evaporator coil; they warm the coil directly and melt frost build-up. Hot-gas defrost instead redirects warm refrigerant from the compressor back through the same coil. The choice between the two depends on room size, the required number of cycles and the type of goods stored; the site survey determines which method suits each installation.

Can two zones at different temperatures share the same footprint?

Yes. A partition of insulated panels separates the space, with each side using a panel thickness matched to its required temperature differential. Each zone has its own refrigeration unit and a door with a heated frame to prevent condensation. This arrangement is widely used in meat and fish facilities that need a chiller zone for short-term stock and a freezer zone for longer storage. The final design depends on the available floor area and the heat load of each section.

Does the position of the condensing unit affect how the freezer room performs?

Position has a direct effect. The condensing unit needs clean air and adequate flow to reject heat; if it is placed in a confined space or near heat sources the condensing pressure rises and the compressor works harder. In Jeddah, outdoor air also carries salt and dust that accumulate on the condenser coil over time. The site survey identifies the best location and the copper-pipe route, keeping each Mueller copper pipe run within thirty metres without welded joints.

Residential neighbours complain about noise and hot air from the outdoor unit?

We liaise with neighbours before installation and mount the unit to minimise noise. We may use acoustic damping or choose a location away from adjoining windows.

The building is mixed residential and commercial; do you put the unit on the shared roof?

Yes, but we need permission from the building owner and other residents. We survey safe distances and water drainage to ensure no one is disturbed.

Humidity is high here; do freezer rooms suffer from mould or rust?

High humidity in south Jeddah increases mould and rust risk. We use humidity-resistant units and recommend periodic cleaning of the aluminium and evaporator.

Power is sometimes weak in the neighbourhood; should the unit run on a backup generator?

If the supply is unstable, we recommend a voltage stabiliser or dedicated protection circuit. A backup generator can run the unit, but consult an electrician before connecting it.
