Who needs a specialist freezer room?

  1. 1

    Stock that needs sub-zero cold

Meat, poultry, fish and ice cream spoil if the temperature rises even briefly above the required level. A freezer room is built to hold that level continuously, not simply to cool.

  2. 2

    One room, two temperature zones

Large restaurants and hotels usually need a chiller section and a freezer section side by side. We build both wings with separate insulation, independent refrigeration units and an insulated inner door, so neither zone affects the other's temperature.

  3. 3

    Expanding an existing facility

If your current cold room no longer holds all your stock, or you need to add a freezer section beside it, we survey the site and propose the most practical way to expand with as little disruption to your operation as possible.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Site survey

We visit the site, learn the stock type and required temperature, measure the available space, and decide the right insulation thickness and refrigeration system from what we find.

  2. 2

    Design and supply

We draw the room layout including pipe and cable routes, then have the panels, doors and equipment ready before installation begins.

  3. 3

    Installation and connection

We fit the panels, insulated floor and door, then run and insulate the copper pipes, vacuum the line and pressure-test it before starting the system. Mueller copper in runs of up to 30 metres without welded joints where the layout calls for it.

  4. 4

    Start-up and handover

We run the system and watch the room reach its target temperature, confirm the defrost cycle works and the door seals properly, then explain the controls to the person responsible for the facility.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.

What sets this district apart

Dhahban is a remote coastal district in far north Jeddah with fishing shops, fish vendors, seafood restaurants and small resorts scattered along the beach. High humidity and sea salt from coastal winds affect outdoor unit metals and pipes. Ground spaces are wide but access may be slower due to distance from the city centre. Drainage needs special care since water pooling around the room can cause humidity and rapid mould problems.

Dhahban is in far north Jeddah on the coast, a tourism and fishing zone with scattered shops, restaurants and small resorts.

Most freezer rooms here are medium-sized with salt and rust-resistant materials and protected copper pipework.

The AC setup in Dhahban

  1. 1

    Freezer room for fresh fish

Fish shops and fresh catch vendors need rapid-freeze capacity with effective drainage for water and salt, and moisture-resistant flooring.

  2. 2

Seafood storage room for restaurants and resorts

Coastal restaurants need medium-sized rooms to store seafood at set temperature, with strong salt protection.

  3. 3

    Freezer warehouse for coastal distributors

Fish and seafood distributors need large warehouses with strong insulation and powerful drainage to resist salt and humidity.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Dhahban

  1. 1

Confirm the ground or marine drainage

Tell us if ground drainage is available nearby, or if we need to direct water towards the sea or use a separate sump.

  2. 2

Clear the site of salt spray and moisture

Clear the planned room area of accumulated salt and moisture, and ensure good air circulation around the site.

  3. 3

    Point out protected electrical connection

Check that your electrical panel is protected from sea salt moisture, and tell us its location before our visit.

FAQ

Questions about Cold & freezer room installation

Why does a freezer room need an insulated floor when a chiller often does not?

At sub-zero temperatures the moisture held in a concrete slab freezes and expands, cracking tiles and lifting bases over time. A chiller room operates above freezing, so ice crystals do not form in the slab. A freezer room therefore requires insulated panels under the floor together with a vapour barrier that blocks rising ground heat and protects the structure over the long term.

What is the difference between electric defrost and other types?

Electric defrost uses heating elements fixed inside the evaporator coil; they warm the coil directly and melt frost build-up. Hot-gas defrost instead redirects warm refrigerant from the compressor back through the same coil. The choice between the two depends on room size, the required number of cycles and the type of goods stored; the site survey determines which method suits each installation.

Can two zones at different temperatures share the same footprint?

Yes. A partition of insulated panels separates the space, with each side using a panel thickness matched to its required temperature differential. Each zone has its own refrigeration unit and a door with a heated frame to prevent condensation. This arrangement is widely used in meat and fish facilities that need a chiller zone for short-term stock and a freezer zone for longer storage. The final design depends on the available floor area and the heat load of each section.

Does the position of the condensing unit affect how the freezer room performs?

Position has a direct effect. The condensing unit needs clean air and adequate flow to reject heat; if it is placed in a confined space or near heat sources the condensing pressure rises and the compressor works harder. In Jeddah, outdoor air also carries salt and dust that accumulate on the condenser coil over time. The site survey identifies the best location and the copper-pipe route, keeping each Mueller copper pipe run within thirty metres without welded joints.

Sea salt corrodes metals fast, do you use protected materials?

Yes, we use corrosion-resistant-coated units and pipes, and copper pipework is heavily insulated to resist salt.

High humidity may cause mould inside the room, how do you prevent it?

We install robust drainage and precisely adjusted ventilation openings, and a regular defrost cycle cleans the coil and dries the interior air.

Distance from the city centre may make maintenance difficult, do you offer routine servicing?

Yes, we cover Dhahban fully. We offer maintenance contracts with coil cleaning, compressor and drain checks, and pipe inspection twice yearly or as needed.

The ground is sandy around the site, how do you drain condensation?

We install a long enough drain pipe to carry water far from the room and seal the outlet to prevent sand and salt water seeping back.
