When your cold room needs attention

  1. 1

    Room not holding temperature

The temperature climbs slowly even though the unit keeps running, or the products inside are warmer than they should be. The cause could be the evaporator, condensing unit, refrigerant level or controller, and only a site check tells which.

  2. 2

    Evaporator icing up and stopping

Ice builds on the evaporator until airflow stops and cooling fails. The cause is usually in the defrost circuit, its sensor or the evaporator fan. Jeddah's humid air speeds up icing when anything in that circuit is not working correctly.

  3. 3

    Door letting cold air escape

A worn or deformed door seal lets warm humid air in, overloading the refrigeration unit and speeding up evaporator icing. If the door frame heater has failed, moisture builds on the frame and the door becomes hard to open.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Describe the fault

WhatsApp us what you see: the temperature showing on the controller, whether the unit is running or not, and the type of stock inside the room.

  2. 2

    Site check and diagnosis

The technician checks the evaporator, condensing unit, defrost circuit, controller and door seal, then identifies the actual cause of the temperature loss before starting any work.

  3. 3

    Repair and replacement

We fix what the diagnosis found: clean the evaporator, repair the defrost circuit, replace the seal or adjust the refrigerant charge to the type written on the unit nameplate.

  4. 4

    Test and handover

We run the room and watch the temperature until it reaches the set value, confirm the alarm and controller are working, then hand you a report of what was done.

What sets this district apart

Al Wurud is a dense commercial district with hotels, shopping centres, restaurant chains and warehouses, many housing large cold rooms for bulk food and beverage stock. The heavy, round-the-clock use means coils and seals wear faster, and the ambient heat and humidity strain electronic controllers. Even a few hours of downtime can mean heavy losses, so fast response and scheduled maintenance are critical.

Al Wurud sits in central Jeddah's commercial and tourism zone, a mixed district blending hotels, large shops and varied restaurants.

Cold rooms here are typically large (8 to 20 cubic metres), with powerful refrigeration units, advanced digital controllers and heavy industrial doors.

The AC setup in Al Wurud

  1. 1

Large rooms for hotels and big retail

Most Al Wurud rooms are large (10 to 20 metres) with powerful multi-compressor units and advanced digital control systems.

  2. 2

High ceilings and outdoor units on roofs

Large commercial buildings here have spacious roofs where the outdoor units sit, away from streets and facades.

  3. 3

Heavy industrial doors and advanced locking systems

Al Wurud room doors are heavy-duty industrial with thick rubber seals and sturdy electromechanical locks.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Wurud

  1. 1

Coordinate with building or restaurant management

Alert building or restaurant management at least one day before so we coordinate safe access and clear pathways.

  2. 2

Clear space around the door and outdoor unit

Make sure the passageway to the room and roof or outdoor unit location is clear of obstacles and stock for safe access.

  3. 3

Prepare a list of current faults and past maintenance

Tell us about last maintenance, earlier faults and current signs like noise, leaks or temperature swings so we plan the check efficiently.

FAQ

Questions about Cold rooms

Why does the temperature rise even though the unit runs all the time?

Continuous running does not mean correct operation. Common causes include a refrigerant leak that reduces the charge, heavy frost on the evaporator coil blocking airflow, or a fault in the rooftop condensing unit raising head pressure. A site survey identifies the actual cause before any work begins.

How do I know if the defrost cycle is working properly?

Clear signs of a defrost fault include thick frost covering the full evaporator coil, a gradual temperature rise while the unit keeps running, and water pooling on the floor instead of draining away. The check covers the heater element, the defrost sensor and the controller, as the fault can lie in any of these parts.

What does a preventive visit for a cold room cover?

A preventive visit covers a pressure check on the refrigeration circuit, cleaning the condenser and evaporator coils, inspecting door seals and frame heaters, testing the controller and alarm, and checking copper pipe connections. The aim is to find a developing fault before it affects the room temperature and the stock inside.

What is the difference between a preventive visit and a repair visit?

A preventive visit is carried out on a unit that is running normally: the purpose is inspection, cleaning and finding early signs of wear before they become a breakdown. A repair visit is requested when an actual fault appears, such as a rising temperature, a stopped compressor or excessive coil icing. Diagnosis comes first, then the required work is defined.

Does Jeddah's rooftop heat affect the condensing unit's performance?

Yes. In summer, Jeddah rooftop surfaces reach very high temperatures, which raises condensing pressure, stresses the compressor and reduces cooling capacity. Regular cleaning of the condenser coil to remove the dust and salt that cling to the fins is essential, not optional. A site survey determines whether the unit's position or the airflow around it is making the problem worse.

My hotel's cold room in Al Wurud has broken down, how quickly can you fix it?

We respond immediately to your call. The fault might be a refrigerant leak, controller failure or door wear, and we diagnose on site to tell you the timeline needed.

My building in Al Wurud is a large commercial complex, can you reach the outdoor unit easily?

Yes, we work on large complexes regularly and coordinate with building management on access times and safe routes before we arrive.

The cold room runs 24/7, can we schedule maintenance without stopping it?

Some faults need brief stops, but we minimise downtime efficiently. We arrange a suitable time with you, such as weekly closure hours, to cut losses.

Power demand in large hotels is very high, does that stress the controller?

Yes, high electrical loads and fluctuations stress sensitive controllers. We inspect wiring and connections, and recommend a robust voltage stabiliser and regular maintenance to prevent sudden failures.
