When you need a medical HVAC specialist

  1. 1

    Hospital or clinic under construction

The right design starts before any duct is installed, because ventilation and filtration needs differ from the surgical suite to the waiting area. An early survey saves costly alterations after the building is finished.

  2. 2

Departments reporting warm air or odours

In an existing medical building, weak cooling in one department or odours crossing into an adjacent area signals an imbalance in the air distribution or extraction system. Finding the cause needs measurement, not guesswork.

  3. 3

Maintenance contract for a running facility

A hospital does not close for equipment servicing. We schedule preventive maintenance visits department by department, coordinated with facility management, and carry out repairs with the smallest possible effect on daily operations.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Survey and requirements

We visit the facility, map the heat loads and air requirements for each department, and agree the duct routes before any design work begins.

  2. 2

    Design and supply

We design the duct network and fabricate it in our own workshop to SMACNA specifications, and supply units from our authorised brands: Carrier, YORK, General, Midea, Gree and Smart Gold.

  3. 3

    Phased coordinated installation

In operating buildings we work with management to phase the installation so adjacent departments stay open, and control dust and noise away from patient areas.

  4. 4

    Commissioning and follow-up

We commission the systems, measure airflow in each department, and adjust the dampers until the design requirements are met, then hand over the facility with a maintenance plan.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.

What sets this district apart

Al Rehab hospital is large and complex with multiple departments needing different temperature and humidity standards: operating theatres with precise control, intensive care with specific pressure, administrative sections with less stringent comfort levels, and general waiting and clinic areas. Buildings are relatively modern with high ceilings allowing extended ductwork and advanced control systems. Al Rehab's central location means high humidity and exposure to exhaust and air pollution from heavy traffic. Regular scheduled maintenance and rapid fault response are essential for patient and staff comfort and medical operation safety.

Al Rehab is in central Jeddah, a mid-sector zone hosting a large hospital, multi-department medical centres and their facilities.

Al Rehab hospital relies on a large central AC system with several compressors and extended ductwork serving multiple departments with separate temperature standards.

The AC setup in Al Rehab

  1. 1

Extended central system with multiple compressors and long ducts

Al Rehab hospital needs a large central system with one or two main compressors and long air ducts distributed across all departments and areas.

  2. 2

Separate backup systems for operating and intensive care

Critical departments may benefit from a complete separate backup compressor or powerful split system that activates automatically if the main system fails.

  3. 3

Advanced pressure, temperature and humidity control per zone

An advanced electronic control system managing each zone separately, with monitoring and logs to ensure every area meets required control standards.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Rehab

  1. 1

Obtain complete engineering drawings of the building and systems

Request drawings from the hospital showing all departments, buildings and distances, plus locations of all current or planned compressors, ducts and outdoor units.

  2. 2

Coordinate with hospital maintenance and operations management

Contact the maintenance and operations departments to identify best visit and maintenance times without impacting services, and brief them on standing emergency needs.

  3. 3

Inspect outdoor unit safety and old fixings

Before the visit, verify the condition of all outdoor units and fixings, and brief our team on any visible corrosion, damage or plans for system renewal.

FAQ

Questions about Hospital HVAC

How do ventilation needs differ across hospital departments?

Ventilation needs vary from one department to the next based on the activity in each area and the requirements set by the facility's designer and the site survey. Operating theatres need highly filtered, directionally controlled air, while patient rooms, corridors and administrative areas each carry different requirements. We build the duct network and select units from the facility's drawings and its specific requirements, not from general assumptions.

Can systems be maintained without stopping sensitive departments?

Yes, but it requires careful planning before the maintenance date. We agree with facility management on a schedule that names the section and the right time window, then isolate the target section using dampers and blanking plates without affecting adjacent departments. Corrective tasks such as replacing a capacitor or repairing a flare joint are carried out within the agreed time window.

What governs duct network design in a medical building?

Design is governed by the approved facility drawings and each department's requirements as defined by the site survey and the specialist designer. We fabricate ducts in our own workshop from G90 galvanised sheet to project dimensions, and use Kimmco and Armaflex insulation with Foster sealants to control leakage. Distribution and pressure in each section follow the specifications drawn for that department individually.

Do you work with small clinics or only hospitals?

We work with medical facilities of all sizes, from a clinic in a residential district to a multi-storey medical complex. The size of the facility does not change the principle: the site survey is the starting point, and from it we determine unit types, duct dimensions and fresh-air requirements for each zone. Preventive and corrective maintenance contracts are available for clinics and hospitals alike.

How many departments should the main AC system cover?

We assess each department's needs during the site survey. Usually we design one or two main compressors covering most departments, with small backup systems for critical areas. Operating and intensive care may need a separate compressor or full backup system.

Al Rehab is central, with car pollution, how do you protect systems from contamination?

We fit high-efficiency multi-stage filters in external ventilation systems, especially for operating and intensive care. We inspect and clean filters more frequently, and use activated charcoal radiators in some cases to remove odours and fine contaminants.

Al Rehab departments are in different buildings, how do you connect AC between them?

We run insulated copper lines between buildings underground or on exterior walls per the engineering plan. We may use multiple distributed compressors so each serves a building or department cluster. We rely on a full site survey to determine the best solution.

The hospital runs 24 hours, how do you maintain the system without stopping services?

We schedule heavy routine maintenance during lower-service hours or weekend breaks in coordination with hospital management. For emergency maintenance and repairs, we use temporary backup units or isolate limited zones while keeping critical departments covered. We have an emergency team on standby.
