When you need a medical HVAC specialist

  1. 1

    Hospital or clinic under construction

The right design starts before any duct is installed, because ventilation and filtration needs differ from the surgical suite to the waiting area. An early survey saves costly alterations after the building is finished.

  2. 2

Departments reporting warm air or odours

In an existing medical building, weak cooling in one department or odours crossing into an adjacent area signals an imbalance in the air distribution or extraction system. Finding the cause needs measurement, not guesswork.

  3. 3

Maintenance contract for a running facility

A hospital does not close for equipment servicing. We schedule preventive maintenance visits department by department, coordinated with facility management, and carry out repairs with the smallest possible effect on daily operations.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Survey and requirements

We visit the facility, map the heat loads and air requirements for each department, and agree the duct routes before any design work begins.

  2. 2

    Design and supply

We design the duct network and fabricate it in our own workshop to SMACNA specifications, and supply units from our authorised brands: Carrier, YORK, General, Midea, Gree and Smart Gold.

  3. 3

    Phased coordinated installation

In operating buildings we work with management to phase the installation so adjacent departments stay open, and control dust and noise away from patient areas.

  4. 4

    Commissioning and follow-up

We commission the systems, measure airflow in each department, and adjust the dampers until the design requirements are met, then hand over the facility with a maintenance plan.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.

What sets this district apart

Al Sharafiyah houses several hospitals and clinics alongside residential and commercial buildings, and the medical structures here expand vertically across multiple floors rather than sprawling horizontally. The central cooling systems in these buildings must hold tight temperature and humidity control in each medical ward, and even minutes of downtime can affect patients and ongoing procedures. Routine maintenance must occur during working hours without shutting wards down or losing cooling.

Al Sharafiyah sits in central Jeddah with a mix of medical, residential and commercial buildings, marked by a high concentration of healthcare facilities.

Most hospitals and clinics in Al Sharafiyah run central cooling systems with ductwork and suspended ceilings to distribute cold air to each ward.

The AC setup in Al Sharafiyah

  1. 1

Separate central system for each critical ward

Operating theatres, intensive care and neonatal units need independent cooling systems to prevent one failure affecting another ward.

  2. 2

    Ductwork routed through suspended ceilings

Air ducts distribute cold air from central units through suspended ceilings, allowing ductwork rearrangement during upgrades or maintenance.

  3. 3

Outdoor units on the roof or secure yard

Outdoor units for central systems sit on roofs or in secure yards to avoid direct coastal salt and dust exposure.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Sharafiyah

  1. 1

Share the building layout and critical ward locations

Send the hospital's floor plans with operating theatres, intensive care and other ward locations marked before the first visit.

  2. 2

Coordinate the maintenance schedule with medical management

Confirm the best maintenance times with the nursing supervisor or operations manager to avoid clashes with ongoing surgical schedules.

  3. 3

Ensure the team can safely reach outdoor units

Confirm safe access to the roof or yard where outdoor units sit, and inform the team of any security restrictions or additional equipment needed.

FAQ

Questions about Hospital HVAC

How do ventilation needs differ across hospital departments?

Ventilation needs vary from one department to the next based on the activity in each area and the requirements set by the facility's designer and the site survey. Operating theatres need highly filtered, directionally controlled air, while patient rooms, corridors and administrative areas each carry different requirements. We build the duct network and select units from the facility's drawings and its specific requirements, not from general assumptions.

Can systems be maintained without stopping sensitive departments?

Yes, but it requires careful planning before the maintenance date. We agree with facility management on a schedule that names the section and the right time window, then isolate the target section using dampers and blanking plates without affecting adjacent departments. Corrective tasks such as replacing a capacitor or repairing a flare joint are carried out within the agreed time window.

What governs duct network design in a medical building?

Design is governed by the approved facility drawings and each department's requirements as defined by the site survey and the specialist designer. We fabricate ducts in our own workshop from G90 galvanised sheet to project dimensions, and use Kimmco and Armaflex insulation with Foster sealants to control leakage. Distribution and pressure in each section follow the specifications drawn for that department individually.

Do you work with small clinics or only hospitals?

We work with medical facilities of all sizes, from a clinic in a residential district to a multi-storey medical complex. The size of the facility does not change the principle: the site survey is the starting point, and from it we determine unit types, duct dimensions and fresh-air requirements for each zone. Preventive and corrective maintenance contracts are available for clinics and hospitals alike.

Can you service the AC while our wards remain open for patients?

Yes, we schedule maintenance so that one or two wards are serviced at a time while the rest keep full cooling. We coordinate with hospital management before each visit to identify which wards can be maintained without affecting patients.

Operating theatres and intensive care need steady cooling, how do you ensure it?

We install separate cooling systems for each critical ward with continuous monitoring of temperature and humidity. If one system fails, other wards remain unaffected, and routine maintenance keeps cooling stable.

Our building has ground level and several storeys, do air ducts run to all wards?

Yes, ducts run across multiple floors, but distribution to each ward depends on outdoor-unit placement, piping and suspended ceilings. An on-site visit confirms that every ward receives adequate cold air.

How do you manage high coastal humidity in intensive care wards?

Central systems include precise humidity monitoring, and filters and dehumidifiers are cleaned regularly to cut moisture and prevent mould growth in ducts and suspended ceilings.
