When you need a medical HVAC specialist

  1. 1

    Hospital or clinic under construction

The right design starts before any duct is installed, because ventilation and filtration needs differ from the surgical suite to the waiting area. An early survey saves costly alterations after the building is finished.

  2. 2

Departments reporting warm air or odours

In an existing medical building, weak cooling in one department or odours crossing into an adjacent area signals an imbalance in the air distribution or extraction system. Finding the cause needs measurement, not guesswork.

  3. 3

Maintenance contract for a running facility

A hospital does not close for equipment servicing. We schedule preventive maintenance visits department by department, coordinated with facility management, and carry out repairs with the smallest possible effect on daily operations.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Survey and requirements

We visit the facility, map the heat loads and air requirements for each department, and agree the duct routes before any design work begins.

  2. 2

    Design and supply

We design the duct network and fabricate it in our own workshop to SMACNA specifications, and supply units from our authorised brands: Carrier, YORK, General, Midea, Gree and Smart Gold.

  3. 3

    Phased coordinated installation

In operating buildings we work with management to phase the installation so adjacent departments stay open, and control dust and noise away from patient areas.

  4. 4

    Commissioning and follow-up

We commission the systems, measure airflow in each department, and adjust the dampers until the design requirements are met, then hand over the facility with a maintenance plan.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.

What sets this district apart

Al Ruhaili is a newer fast-growing area seeing new hospitals built with spacious layouts and regular urban planning, allowing powerful central cooling systems to efficiently cover multiple departments. The eastern summer heat reaches very high temperatures, especially on the east side of buildings, putting strong pressure on cooling. Alrabih's team inspects distribution lines and chillers, and carries out preventive maintenance to ensure system stability throughout the year.

Al Ruhaili lies in north-east Jeddah, a newer development area with hospitals and clinics in contemporary buildings.

HVAC systems here are usually central with one or more chillers and long distribution ducts covering wide areas.

The AC setup in Al Ruhaili

  1. 1

Powerful central chiller for large areas

New hospitals in Al Ruhaili typically use one powerful chiller or more, covering wide areas through a complex network of distribution ducts.

  2. 2

Long distribution ducts with distributed control points

Different departments may be distant from the main chiller, so long ducts with separate control points for each area are used.

  3. 3

Wall or ceiling units for each specialised department

Some sensitive departments may need additional units to ensure precise temperature and humidity control.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Ruhaili

  1. 1

Get a complete map of the hospital and departments

Request from management a map showing the location of chillers, main ducts and indoor units for each department before the visit.

  2. 2

    Identify high-priority departments

Make sure you know which critical departments need inspection first, such as intensive care and theatres.

  3. 3

Check access to chillers and outdoor plant rooms

Chillers and pumps are usually on roofs or in separate plant rooms, confirm safe access and necessary permits.

FAQ

Questions about Hospital HVAC

How do ventilation needs differ across hospital departments?

Ventilation needs vary from one department to the next based on the activity in each area and the requirements set by the facility's designer and the site survey. Operating theatres need highly filtered, directionally controlled air, while patient rooms, corridors and administrative areas each carry different requirements. We build the duct network and select units from the facility's drawings and its specific requirements, not from general assumptions.

Can systems be maintained without stopping sensitive departments?

Yes, but it requires careful planning before the maintenance date. We agree with facility management on a schedule that names the section and the right time window, then isolate the target section using dampers and blanking plates without affecting adjacent departments. Corrective tasks such as replacing a capacitor or repairing a flare joint are carried out within the agreed time window.

What governs duct network design in a medical building?

Design is governed by the approved facility drawings and each department's requirements as defined by the site survey and the specialist designer. We fabricate ducts in our own workshop from G90 galvanised sheet to project dimensions, and use Kimmco and Armaflex insulation with Foster sealants to control leakage. Distribution and pressure in each section follow the specifications drawn for that department individually.

Do you work with small clinics or only hospitals?

We work with medical facilities of all sizes, from a clinic in a residential district to a multi-storey medical complex. The size of the facility does not change the principle: the site survey is the starting point, and from it we determine unit types, duct dimensions and fresh-air requirements for each zone. Preventive and corrective maintenance contracts are available for clinics and hospitals alike.

Can your central HVAC systems handle the intense summer heat here?

Eastern summer heat is intense, especially on east and south-facing facades of the hospital. We check chiller and pump capacity, and may recommend upgrades if demand exceeds current capacity.

The hospital is large with sprawling buildings, how do you design air distribution?

We study the complete hospital layout and position chillers and main ducts to distribute cooling evenly to all departments, using control systems to adjust distribution as needed.

Can you inspect and maintain the system without disrupting patient departments?

We plan maintenance with medical management and carry it out at scheduled times or on parts of the system while other departments operate normally.

How do you handle the electrical supply and outdoor lines for the chillers?

We inspect electrical circuits, outdoor runs and earthing, and ensure chillers and pumps operate efficiently. We recommend electrical upgrades if needed to ensure stable operation.
