When you need a medical HVAC specialist

  1. 1

    Hospital or clinic under construction

The right design starts before any duct is installed, because ventilation and filtration needs differ from the surgical suite to the waiting area. An early survey saves costly alterations after the building is finished.

  2. 2

Departments reporting warm air or odours

In an existing medical building, weak cooling in one department or odours crossing into an adjacent area signals an imbalance in the air distribution or extraction system. Finding the cause needs measurement, not guesswork.

  3. 3

Maintenance contract for a running facility

A hospital does not close for equipment servicing. We schedule preventive maintenance visits department by department, coordinated with facility management, and carry out repairs with the smallest possible effect on daily operations.

Who it's for

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Survey and requirements

We visit the facility, map the heat loads and air requirements for each department, and agree the duct routes before any design work begins.

  2. 2

    Design and supply

We design the duct network and fabricate it in our own workshop to SMACNA specifications, and supply units from our authorised brands: Carrier, YORK, General, Midea, Gree and Smart Gold.

  3. 3

    Phased coordinated installation

In operating buildings we work with management to phase the installation so adjacent departments stay open, and control dust and noise away from patient areas.

  4. 4

    Commissioning and follow-up

We commission the systems, measure airflow in each department, and adjust the dampers until the design requirements are met, then hand over the facility with a maintenance plan.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

South Jeddah's hospitals are relatively modern and spread over large areas with multi-storey departments and wide roofs. The high coastal heat and humidity impose a constant load on cooling units, especially in operating theatres and intensive care where precise temperature and humidity control is essential. Modern construction allows comprehensive central runs but demands regular maintenance to keep air quality and climate control consistent across all wards.

Al Sahil on Jeddah's south coast holds modern, spacious hospital buildings along the waterfront, directly exposed to coastal heat and salt air.

Central AC systems with multiple control stations are standard in coastal hospitals, with outdoor units on wide roofs to handle high heat rejection.

The AC setup in Al Sahil

  1. 1

    Multi-station central cooling system

Coastal hospitals use unified central systems with separate control stations per department to ensure independent and reliable climate control across all wards.

  2. 2

Large outdoor units on spacious roofs

Wide roofs accommodate large outdoor units with high capacity, distributed strategically to optimise airflow and heat rejection in hot coastal climates.

  3. 3

Specialised air purification for critical areas

Operating theatres and intensive care require additional air purification units and high-efficiency filters to maintain sterile air quality.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Sahil

  1. 1

Coordinate maintenance schedule with hospital management

Secure approval from hospital management for the visit date and departments to be serviced, confirming work windows that avoid peak clinical hours.

  2. 2

Survey central systems and outdoor units on the roof

Before the visit, map out the main control stations, outdoor unit locations, conditioned corridors and compressor circuits on the roof.

  3. 3

Confirm access to equipment and roof safety

Ensure our team can safely reach outdoor units on the roof and that necessary equipment and scaffolding are available for secure maintenance work.

FAQ

Questions about Hospital HVAC

How do ventilation needs differ across hospital departments?

Ventilation needs vary from one department to the next based on the activity in each area and the requirements set by the facility's designer and the site survey. Operating theatres need highly filtered, directionally controlled air, while patient rooms, corridors and administrative areas each carry different requirements. We build the duct network and select units from the facility's drawings and its specific requirements, not from general assumptions.

Can systems be maintained without stopping sensitive departments?

Yes, but it requires careful planning before the maintenance date. We agree with facility management on a schedule that names the section and the right time window, then isolate the target section using dampers and blanking plates without affecting adjacent departments. Corrective tasks such as replacing a capacitor or repairing a flare joint are carried out within the agreed time window.

What governs duct network design in a medical building?

Design is governed by the approved facility drawings and each department's requirements as defined by the site survey and the specialist designer. We fabricate ducts in our own workshop from G90 galvanised sheet to project dimensions, and use Kimmco and Armaflex insulation with Foster sealants to control leakage. Distribution and pressure in each section follow the specifications drawn for that department individually.

Do you work with small clinics or only hospitals?

We work with medical facilities of all sizes, from a clinic in a residential district to a multi-storey medical complex. The size of the facility does not change the principle: the site survey is the starting point, and from it we determine unit types, duct dimensions and fresh-air requirements for each zone. Preventive and corrective maintenance contracts are available for clinics and hospitals alike.

How do you maintain the AC without shutting down hospital wards?

We plan maintenance with the hospital management and work in scheduled windows per department, keeping backup units running in parallel during the work.

High coastal humidity affects the AC systems here, what does that mean?

Coastal humidity increases the cooling and dehumidification load on evaporators and dryers, so we specify higher-capacity dehumidification units and clean the coils regularly to prevent excess moisture.

Your hospitals have wide roofs; how does that affect outdoor unit placement?

Wide roofs give us flexibility to spread outdoor units for better airflow and easier maintenance, but require robust mounting structures that withstand coastal heat and wind loads.

Do you handle the specific needs of operating theatres and intensive care units?

Yes, operating theatres and intensive care have strict requirements for temperature, humidity, ventilation and air purity control; we design dedicated systems for each unit with continuous monitoring.
