When you need a medical HVAC specialist

  1. 1

    Hospital or clinic under construction

The right design starts before any duct is installed, because ventilation and filtration needs differ from the surgical suite to the waiting area. An early survey saves costly alterations after the building is finished.

  2. 2

Departments reporting warm air or odours

In an existing medical building, weak cooling in one department or odours crossing into an adjacent area signals an imbalance in the air distribution or extraction system. Finding the cause needs measurement, not guesswork.

  3. 3

Maintenance contract for a running facility

A hospital does not close for equipment servicing. We schedule preventive maintenance visits department by department, coordinated with facility management, and carry out repairs with the smallest possible effect on daily operations.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Survey and requirements

We visit the facility, map the heat loads and air requirements for each department, and agree the duct routes before any design work begins.

  2. 2

    Design and supply

We design the duct network and fabricate it in our own workshop to SMACNA specifications, and supply units from our authorised brands: Carrier, YORK, General, Midea, Gree and Smart Gold.

  3. 3

    Phased coordinated installation

In operating buildings we work with management to phase the installation so adjacent departments stay open, and control dust and noise away from patient areas.

  4. 4

    Commissioning and follow-up

We commission the systems, measure airflow in each department, and adjust the dampers until the design requirements are met, then hand over the facility with a maintenance plan.

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.

What sets this district apart

Al Zuhur is a growing modern district with mixed buildings, hospitals, clinics, residential complexes, and the medical buildings usually have adequate space for outdoor units and long copper runs. The district's recent planning allows flexible, maintainable cooling systems, but fast construction sometimes leaves gaps in technical records, so we do a full survey when contracted to understand every part. Different medical departments need varying temperature and humidity standards.

Al Zuhur is a modern district in north Jeddah with hospitals and medical centres in contemporary buildings spread across a wide area.

Most systems here are medium to high-capacity central units with separate zone controls, and outdoor units are typically on building roofs or designated exterior areas.

The AC setup in Al Zuhur

  1. 1

Medium central system with separate department zones

Most large hospitals and clinics here use one main cooling unit with separate ducts and smart valves controlling air distribution to each department.

  2. 2

Outdoor units on roofs with adequate space

Outdoor units are typically on building roofs with good ventilation space and access, making maintenance easier than in older districts.

  3. 3

Modern control networks but variable documentation

Modern systems usually have smart controllers, but technical documentation may be incomplete, so we re-document it during the first service.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Zuhur

Obtain original building and design documentation

Bring any original architectural or HVAC drawings from the contractor or engineer, even if partial, as they speed up our understanding.

  2. 2

Gather a list of departments and medical requirements

Prepare a list of every medical department or unit with its required temperature and humidity ranges, and send it before the visit.

  3. 3

Coordinate the visit with hospital administration and maintenance

Contact the maintenance manager and clinical operations to pick the best time for inspection without disrupting routine operations or emergencies.

FAQ

Questions about Hospital HVAC

How do ventilation needs differ across hospital departments?

Ventilation needs vary from one department to the next based on the activity in each area and the requirements set by the facility's designer and the site survey. Operating theatres need highly filtered, directionally controlled air, while patient rooms, corridors and administrative areas each carry different requirements. We build the duct network and select units from the facility's drawings and its specific requirements, not from general assumptions.

Can systems be maintained without stopping sensitive departments?

Yes, but it requires careful planning before the maintenance date. We agree with facility management on a schedule that names the section and the right time window, then isolate the target section using dampers and blanking plates without affecting adjacent departments. Corrective tasks such as replacing a capacitor or repairing a flare joint are carried out within the agreed time window.

What governs duct network design in a medical building?

Design is governed by the approved facility drawings and each department's requirements as defined by the site survey and the specialist designer. We fabricate ducts in our own workshop from G90 galvanised sheet to project dimensions, and use Kimmco and Armaflex insulation with Foster sealants to control leakage. Distribution and pressure in each section follow the specifications drawn for that department individually.

Do you work with small clinics or only hospitals?

We work with medical facilities of all sizes, from a clinic in a residential district to a multi-storey medical complex. The size of the facility does not change the principle: the site survey is the starting point, and from it we determine unit types, duct dimensions and fresh-air requirements for each zone. Preventive and corrective maintenance contracts are available for clinics and hospitals alike.

Our new hospital in Al Zuhur, how do we ensure the design suits all departments?

We survey each department in detail to understand its medical requirements for temperature, humidity and air changes, then design the system to meet all of that with easy control and maintenance.

Some systems here are new but lack full documentation; how do you work with that?

We chart the system during the first inspection and document every pipe, wire and connection, then give you a complete file for future maintenance.

Can we integrate cooling systems from several clinics in one building?

Yes, if the clinics are in one building we can merge their separate systems into a unified network with independent controls for each clinic's needs.

Is power in Al Zuhur reliable? Does the cooling system need backup generation?

The power grid in Al Zuhur is generally reliable, but larger hospitals choose backup generators; we recommend this in the design if the hospital has high operational standards.
