When you need a retail HVAC specialist

  1. 1

A new mall or shopping centre

A poor design from the start means cold zones next to stifling ones and endless tenant complaints. We study the heat load of each zone separately and choose the right unit type before the ceiling is built.

  2. 2

An existing shop with uneven cooling

The back of the shop is cold while the front near the door stays hot at peak hours. The cause is usually the air outlet layout or the unit size; a site survey identifies which and fixes the problem without replacing the whole system.

  3. 3

Condensate dripping on shelves or display

A single drip on stock or a glass display front damages the product and the shop's image. The cause is usually weak insulation, a blocked condensate line or an unlevel unit, all of which can be diagnosed and fixed in one visit.

Who it's for

  • Opening a new shop inside a mall

We design an independent unit for your space and install ductwork and condensate lines before finishing work so your opening is not delayed.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Site survey and loads

We visit the site and map every heat source: entrances, lighting, expected crowd density and facade orientation, then size the units correctly for each section.

  2. 2

    Design and materials

We design the duct network in our own workshop from G90 galvanised sheet to dimensions that give even air distribution, and select units from brands we distribute such as Carrier, YORK and Gree.

  3. 3

    Installation coordinated on site

We coordinate installation with the project programme so ductwork does not delay finishing trades, and run Mueller copper in runs of up to 30 metres without welded joints to reduce potential leak points.

  4. 4

    Start-up and maintenance contract

We start up the system and check air distribution in every section, then set a preventive and corrective maintenance schedule timed so work never overlaps with the shop's trading hours.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

Al Aqeeq is a modern northern district hosting large malls and contemporary shopping districts with reflective metal surfaces and cladding everywhere. Heat reflection amplifies the stress on cooling significantly, especially in summer, and cold air loss through open doors is rapid. High-capacity central systems with extra compressor banks are necessary, and weekly filter and duct cleaning is not optional.

Al Aqeeq lies in northern Jeddah, a district of large modern malls with contemporary architecture and highly reflective metal surfaces.

Systems here are high-capacity with large outdoor units and additional compressors, because reflected heat significantly increases the actual cooling load.

The AC setup in Al Aqeeq

  1. 1

High-capacity central system with multiple compressors

The system uses multiple compressors working together, with the ability to run one or more based on thermal load.

  2. 2

Large outdoor units with enhanced ventilation

Large outdoor units positioned with ample ventilation space around them to minimize absorption of reflected heat.

  3. 3

Isolated cooling ducts for sensitive zones

Distribution ducts are thickly insulated in high-heat zones to minimise cold loss during distribution.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Aqeeq

  1. 1

Map all outdoor unit locations and main ducts

Request a complete map showing outdoor unit locations, surrounding roofscape, and all main and branch ducts.

  2. 2

Ensure safe access to the roof

Confirm the roof is safe for team movement and extended work, and that heat levels do not pose occupational hazard.

  3. 3

    Schedule preventive maintenance cycles

Establish a regular preventive maintenance cycle every two months, with emergency response available if issues arise.

FAQ

Questions about Mall & retail HVAC

How do you handle doors that open onto the street all day?

An open door pushes in hot humid air and spikes the heat load suddenly. We include that load in the design and direct a supply outlet above the entrance to form an air barrier that reduces mixing. The survey confirms which arrangement suits each specific doorway.

Do you install separate units for each mall tenant?

Yes. A separate unit per tenant means each shop controls its own cooling and a fault in one unit does not affect the neighbour. It also makes consumption readings straightforward and makes maintenance responsibility clear for each party.

Why do you prefer rooftop packaged units for malls?

A rooftop packaged unit keeps the condenser and evaporator in one casing above the roof, freeing every inch of shop floor from outdoor units and shortening the duct run. Maintenance happens on the roof without entering the shop, which fits scheduling work outside trading hours.

How do you handle Jeddah's heat and its effect on rooftop units?

Rooftop units in Jeddah work in hot, salty and dusty air that strains the condenser and speeds fin corrosion. We specify units with corrosion-resistant coatings and include coil cleaning and compressor and condenser checks in the preventive schedule of every maintenance contract.

Does air distribution design differ between a small shop and a large mall?

The site survey decides. A small shop may need only a concealed unit with directional grilles, while a mall requires a duct network with dampers zoned by area. In both cases the positions of lighting, visitor traffic and entry doors are recorded before supply outlets are placed.

Reflective metal surfaces make heat worse, how does the system handle that?

The system is sized well above standard to account for heat gain from reflective surfaces. Regular inspection of outdoor coils and the compressor is essential to prevent chronic thermal stress.

Units break down from constant thermal pressure, what is the solution?

Preventive maintenance every two months instead of yearly servicing cuts downtime. We inspect the compressor, coils and filters, replacing weak parts before they fail.

Do we need extra compressors or one powerful system?

Extra compressors provide flexibility and spread the load; if one fails, the others continue. This beats a single powerful unit for ease of maintenance and reliability.

High temperatures affect outdoor unit performance, what temperature range do they tolerate?

Standard units operate efficiently up to around 52°C ambient. Shading or protective screens around outdoor units lower ambient temperature and noticeably boost efficiency.
