When you need a retail HVAC specialist

  1. 1

A new mall or shopping centre

A poor design from the start means cold zones next to stifling ones and endless tenant complaints. We study the heat load of each zone separately and choose the right unit type before the ceiling is built.

  2. 2

An existing shop with uneven cooling

The back of the shop is cold while the front near the door stays hot at peak hours. The cause is usually the air outlet layout or the unit size; a site survey identifies which and fixes the problem without replacing the whole system.

  3. 3

Condensate dripping on shelves or display

A single drip on stock or a glass display front damages the product and the shop's image. The cause is usually weak insulation, a blocked condensate line or an unlevel unit, all of which can be diagnosed and fixed in one visit.

Who it's for

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Site survey and loads

We visit the site and map every heat source: entrances, lighting, expected crowd density and facade orientation, then size the units correctly for each section.

  2. 2

    Design and materials

We design the duct network in our own workshop from G90 galvanised sheet to dimensions that give even air distribution, and select units from brands we distribute such as Carrier, YORK and Gree.

  3. 3

    Installation coordinated on site

We coordinate installation with the project programme so ductwork does not delay finishing trades, and run Mueller copper in runs of up to 30 metres without welded joints to reduce potential leak points.

  4. 4

    Start-up and maintenance contract

We start up the system and check air distribution in every section, then set a preventive and corrective maintenance schedule timed so work never overlaps with the shop's trading hours.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.

What sets this district apart

Al Asalah has large modern malls and shopping arcades alongside standalone shops in multi-storey buildings, all needing robust central HVAC that tolerates constant door swings and intense heat. The system must hold a steady temperature across different retail zones, keep moisture away from stock, and reach maintenance points without disrupting customer flow or staff.

Al Asalah is a modern northern Jeddah district, defined by contemporary malls and shopping arcades in up-to-date buildings.

Most major malls in Al Asalah use central chilling units with extensive ducted air systems, with outdoor units typically positioned on the mall roofs.

The AC setup in Al Asalah

  1. 1

Central chilling with ducted air delivery

Modern Al Asalah malls rely on large central chilling units distributing cooled air through extensive duct networks to all shops and corridors.

  2. 2

    Separate zone systems per area

Larger malls split cooling into zones so the main corridors can be controlled separately from clothing shops or restaurants, each with different loads.

  3. 3

    Rooftop outdoor units

Large outdoor units sit on mall roofs to save street frontage and allow maintenance without interfering with customer traffic.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Asalah

  1. 1

Coordinate with mall management in advance

Arrange the inspection or service time with mall management to avoid disrupting shop hours and to secure access to the plant room and roof.

  2. 2

Ensure roof or external unit access

Verify our team can safely reach the roof and outdoor spaces where units sit, with sufficient working space available.

  3. 3

Clarify the duct layout and zones

If available, show us the duct schematic or mark the different zones so we can test thermal balance accurately and arrange any adjustments.

FAQ

Questions about Mall & retail HVAC

How do you handle doors that open onto the street all day?

An open door pushes in hot humid air and spikes the heat load suddenly. We include that load in the design and direct a supply outlet above the entrance to form an air barrier that reduces mixing. The survey confirms which arrangement suits each specific doorway.

Do you install separate units for each mall tenant?

Yes. A separate unit per tenant means each shop controls its own cooling and a fault in one unit does not affect the neighbour. It also makes consumption readings straightforward and makes maintenance responsibility clear for each party.

Why do you prefer rooftop packaged units for malls?

A rooftop packaged unit keeps the condenser and evaporator in one casing above the roof, freeing every inch of shop floor from outdoor units and shortening the duct run. Maintenance happens on the roof without entering the shop, which fits scheduling work outside trading hours.

How do you handle Jeddah's heat and its effect on rooftop units?

Rooftop units in Jeddah work in hot, salty and dusty air that strains the condenser and speeds fin corrosion. We specify units with corrosion-resistant coatings and include coil cleaning and compressor and condenser checks in the preventive schedule of every maintenance contract.

Does air distribution design differ between a small shop and a large mall?

The site survey decides. A small shop may need only a concealed unit with directional grilles, while a mall requires a duct network with dampers zoned by area. In both cases the positions of lighting, visitor traffic and entry doors are recorded before supply outlets are placed.

Our mall is new but the far zones cool unevenly. What causes that?

Uneven air distribution in long corridors often comes from pressure imbalance in the ducts or clogged filters. An inspection visit pinpoints the issue and recommends duct rebalancing or filter cleaning.

Our shop doors are open all day, how do we maintain cooling without running costs spiralling?

Proper system calibration and regular maintenance ensure it runs efficiently despite constant door opening. An annual inspection of the compressor, valves and ducts maintains performance and cuts losses.

Stock in our retail area gets affected by humidity, does HVAC help control it?

Yes, a central system with regular drain-pan and duct upkeep removes excess moisture and shields stock from warping and spoilage.

When should we schedule maintenance in the mall without losing trading hours?

We arrange with mall management to service at night or on scheduled closure days, or fit quick maintenance into quiet trading hours once we confirm the system does not need a long shutdown.
