Retail cooling without downtime
Mall & retail HVAC in Al Atheer
In Al Atheer, south Jeddah, mall and retail HVAC must handle constant door openings to the heat, strong lighting and fluctuating customer density throughout the day. Alrabih designs and installs systems built to absorb these shifts whilst protecting stock from moisture and water damage.

When you need a retail HVAC specialist
- 1
A new mall or shopping centre
A poor design from the start means cold zones next to stifling ones and endless tenant complaints. We study the heat load of each zone separately and choose the right unit type before the ceiling is built.
- 2
An existing shop with uneven cooling
The back of the shop is cold while the front near the door stays hot at peak hours. The cause is usually the air outlet layout or the unit size; a site survey identifies which and fixes the problem without replacing the whole system.
- 3
Condensate dripping on shelves or display
A single drip on stock or a glass display front damages the product and the shop's image. The cause is usually weak insulation, a blocked condensate line or an unlevel unit, all of which can be diagnosed and fixed in one visit.
Who it's for
Opening a new shop inside a mall
We design an independent unit for your space and install ductwork and condensate lines before finishing work so your opening is not delayed.

We review the existing system and set a preventive and corrective maintenance contract scheduled outside trading hours so tenants are not affected.

How we work
How we work
- 1
Site survey and loads
We visit the site and map every heat source: entrances, lighting, expected crowd density and facade orientation, then size the units correctly for each section.
- 2
Design and materials
We design the duct network in our own workshop from G90 galvanised sheet to dimensions that give even air distribution, and select units from brands we distribute such as Carrier, YORK and Gree.
- 3
Installation coordinated on site
We coordinate installation with the project programme so ductwork does not delay finishing trades, and run Mueller copper in runs of up to 30 metres without welded joints to reduce potential leak points.
- 4
Start-up and maintenance contract
We start up the system and check air distribution in every section, then set a preventive and corrective maintenance schedule timed so work never overlaps with the shop's trading hours.

What sets this district apart
Al Atheer is an active commercial district with medium to large malls and retail shops, many opening directly onto the street without insulating lobbies, meaning constant heat loss when doors open, especially during peak hours. Shops here need a system that rebalances heat and humidity quickly without service cuts or shop closures for maintenance, and the installation must leave ample rooftop and balcony space for larger outdoor units.
Al Atheer lies in south Jeddah, an active commercial zone with malls and retail frontages opening directly onto busy streets.
Most large shops and malls here use central control units with insulated air ducts and multiple outlets per section.

FAQ
Questions about Mall & retail HVAC
How do you handle doors that open onto the street all day?
An open door pushes in hot humid air and spikes the heat load suddenly. We include that load in the design and direct a supply outlet above the entrance to form an air barrier that reduces mixing. The survey confirms which arrangement suits each specific doorway.
Do you install separate units for each mall tenant?
Yes. A separate unit per tenant means each shop controls its own cooling and a fault in one unit does not affect the neighbour. It also makes consumption readings straightforward and makes maintenance responsibility clear for each party.
Why do you prefer rooftop packaged units for malls?
A rooftop packaged unit keeps the condenser and evaporator in one casing above the roof, freeing every inch of shop floor from outdoor units and shortening the duct run. Maintenance happens on the roof without entering the shop, which fits scheduling work outside trading hours.
How do you handle Jeddah's heat and its effect on rooftop units?
Rooftop units in Jeddah work in hot, salty and dusty air that strains the condenser and speeds fin corrosion. We specify units with corrosion-resistant coatings and include coil cleaning and compressor and condenser checks in the preventive schedule of every maintenance contract.
Does air distribution design differ between a small shop and a large mall?
The site survey decides. A small shop may need only a concealed unit with directional grilles, while a mall requires a duct network with dampers zoned by area. In both cases the positions of lighting, visitor traffic and entry doors are recorded before supply outlets are placed.
How does the system cope with constant door openings in the shop?
The central system re-circulates air fast enough to maintain temperature even as air escapes at the door. We size the unit based on shop floor area and door frequency.
Can maintenance happen without closing the shop?
Yes, we schedule visits during quieter hours or use temporary units if needed so trading continues unaffected.
Humidity from the cooling unit can damage stock; how do you prevent water pooling?
We fit drain pans parallel to the ducts, pump condensate forcefully to external outlets, and test drainage before full operation.
The shop is on the second floor; can the outdoor unit go on the balcony?
Yes, but the balcony must be assessed for the unit's weight and vibration. We survey the site first to confirm structural safety.
