When you need a retail HVAC specialist

  1. 1

A new mall or shopping centre

A poor design from the start means cold zones next to stifling ones and endless tenant complaints. We study the heat load of each zone separately and choose the right unit type before the ceiling is built.

  2. 2

An existing shop with uneven cooling

The back of the shop is cold while the front near the door stays hot at peak hours. The cause is usually the air outlet layout or the unit size; a site survey identifies which and fixes the problem without replacing the whole system.

  3. 3

Condensate dripping on shelves or display

A single drip on stock or a glass display front damages the product and the shop's image. The cause is usually weak insulation, a blocked condensate line or an unlevel unit, all of which can be diagnosed and fixed in one visit.

Who it's for

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Site survey and loads

We visit the site and map every heat source: entrances, lighting, expected crowd density and facade orientation, then size the units correctly for each section.

  2. 2

    Design and materials

We design the duct network in our own workshop from G90 galvanised sheet to dimensions that give even air distribution, and select units from brands we distribute such as Carrier, YORK and Gree.

  3. 3

    Installation coordinated on site

We coordinate installation with the project programme so ductwork does not delay finishing trades, and run Mueller copper in runs of up to 30 metres without welded joints to reduce potential leak points.

  4. 4

    Start-up and maintenance contract

We start up the system and check air distribution in every section, then set a preventive and corrective maintenance schedule timed so work never overlaps with the shop's trading hours.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.

What sets this district apart

Al Rughamah is an expanding district with parallel residential and commercial buildings, where shops typically occupy ground floors with flats above. The relatively modern building design allows clear separate cooling systems, but the need for sound and thermal insulation between shops and flats demands high standards for outdoor unit design and placement. Intense heat, steady customer flow and high electrical loads from lighting and equipment need regular maintenance to avoid cooling outages during peak trading hours.

Al Rughamah sits in east Jeddah, a growing district with modern residential and commercial buildings laid out in regular patterns.

Al Rughamah's retail shops mostly use reliable split units or small central systems because new buildings are constructed with clear thermal distribution standards.

The AC setup in Al Rughamah (Abraq Al Rughamah)

  1. 1

    Sound-insulated independent split units

Al Rughamah's shops use split units with special sound-isolating brackets to protect the residents upstairs from noise and vibration.

  2. 2

Small central systems for larger shops

Larger shops need compact central systems with a single robust outdoor unit and balanced indoor distribution to cover the space without exposing the flat above to noise.

  3. 3

    High-efficiency units protecting electrical loads

Selecting high-efficiency units reduces the load on building circuits and keeps the electrical supply stable for both shop and flat.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Rughamah (Abraq Al Rughamah)

  1. 1

Verify electrical circuits and main breaker capacity

Before the visit, check the main breaker specs for both shop and flat combined, and confirm no other heavy loads are already on the same circuit.

  2. 2

Locate the outdoor unit away from residential windows

Study the site plan and identify the best location for the outdoor unit away from direct exposure to flat windows above or beside it.

  3. 3

    Schedule installation outside trading hours

Coordinate with the shop owner to install the unit early on a closed day or in the evening after closing to avoid trading disruption or disturbing sleeping residents.

FAQ

Questions about Mall & retail HVAC

How do you handle doors that open onto the street all day?

An open door pushes in hot humid air and spikes the heat load suddenly. We include that load in the design and direct a supply outlet above the entrance to form an air barrier that reduces mixing. The survey confirms which arrangement suits each specific doorway.

Do you install separate units for each mall tenant?

Yes. A separate unit per tenant means each shop controls its own cooling and a fault in one unit does not affect the neighbour. It also makes consumption readings straightforward and makes maintenance responsibility clear for each party.

Why do you prefer rooftop packaged units for malls?

A rooftop packaged unit keeps the condenser and evaporator in one casing above the roof, freeing every inch of shop floor from outdoor units and shortening the duct run. Maintenance happens on the roof without entering the shop, which fits scheduling work outside trading hours.

How do you handle Jeddah's heat and its effect on rooftop units?

Rooftop units in Jeddah work in hot, salty and dusty air that strains the condenser and speeds fin corrosion. We specify units with corrosion-resistant coatings and include coil cleaning and compressor and condenser checks in the preventive schedule of every maintenance contract.

Does air distribution design differ between a small shop and a large mall?

The site survey decides. A small shop may need only a concealed unit with directional grilles, while a mall requires a duct network with dampers zoned by area. In both cases the positions of lighting, visitor traffic and entry doors are recorded before supply outlets are placed.

Residents upstairs complain about noise from my shop's AC, how do you fix it?

We relocate the outdoor unit away from residential walls and mount it on robust vibration-isolation brackets. We test noise levels after installation to ensure they remain within acceptable limits.

My new shop has limited electrical capacity, does your AC fit the power budget?

We calculate the total electrical load and select high-efficiency units. We consult the building's electrician to upgrade the circuit if needed before installation.

The heat here is intense, can the AC handle extremely high temperatures?

Our units are rated for operation in temperatures up to 50°C and beyond. We ensure good ventilation for the outdoor unit and recommend monthly cleaning during summer to keep efficiency high.

My shop opens directly onto the hot street, how do you keep it cool?

We size the unit slightly above standard capacity and fit insulated curtains or windows on the storefront where possible. We set the thermostat to automatically boost speed when the door opens.
