Retail cooling without downtime
Mall & retail HVAC in Al Sabeel
In Al Sabeel, south of the old centre, retail HVAC in small shops and commercial clusters faces high heat and variable customer flow all day. Alrabih chooses a system that responds to those swings and maintains air quality and stock condition.
- Separate tenants
- Rooftop packaged
- Off-hours service

When you need a retail HVAC specialist
- 1
A new mall or shopping centre
A poor design from the start means cold zones next to stifling ones and endless tenant complaints. We study the heat load of each zone separately and choose the right unit type before the ceiling is built.
- 2
An existing shop with uneven cooling
The back of the shop is cold while the front near the door stays hot at peak hours. The cause is usually the air outlet layout or the unit size; a site survey identifies which and fixes the problem without replacing the whole system.
- 3
Condensate dripping on shelves or display
A single drip on stock or a glass display front damages the product and the shop's image. The cause is usually weak insulation, a blocked condensate line or an unlevel unit, all of which can be diagnosed and fixed in one visit.
Who it's for
Opening a new shop inside a mall
We design an independent unit for your space and install ductwork and condensate lines before finishing work so your opening is not delayed.
Ask on WhatsAppManaging an existing commercial complex
We review the existing system and set a preventive and corrective maintenance contract scheduled outside trading hours so tenants are not affected.

How we work
How we work
- 1
Site survey and loads
We visit the site and map every heat source: entrances, lighting, expected crowd density and facade orientation, then size the units correctly for each section.
- 2
Design and materials
We design the duct network in our own workshop from G90 galvanised sheet to dimensions that give even air distribution, and select units from brands we distribute such as Carrier, YORK and Gree.
- 3
Installation coordinated on site
We coordinate installation with the project programme so ductwork does not delay finishing trades, and run Mueller copper in runs of up to 30 metres without welded joints to reduce potential leak points.
- 4
Start-up and maintenance contract
We start up the system and check air distribution in every section, then set a preventive and corrective maintenance schedule timed so work never overlaps with the shop's trading hours.
Designed for the space or just fitted?
| Alrabih | The usual way | |
|---|---|---|
| Air distribution | Load study per zone | One unit for the whole space |
| Ductwork | G90 sheet, sized for the job | Off-the-shelf wrong size |
| Condensate | Dedicated line away from stock | Risk of drips on shelves |
| Maintenance | Scheduled outside shop hours | Surprise outage during trade |
| Copper purity | Mueller copper, 99% pure, no welds | Unspecified pipe source |

What sets this district apart
Al Sabeel is a mixed commercial and residential district with shops and flats side by side, the shops slightly larger than Al Balad but streets remain tight and units sit on building roofs. Because of the population density and many neighbouring shops, installation and maintenance must be coordinated with building management and adjacent tenants. High heat and humidity increase the cooling load, especially in shops with heavy customer traffic, and drainage must be efficient to shield stock from moisture.
Al Sabeel is a commercial district directly south of Al Balad, home to small shops and flats with outdoor units on limited roofs.
Al Sabeel shops typically run one split or a small two-unit system to cover the space, with the outdoor unit on shared roof space.
The AC setup in Al Sabeel
- 1
One or two splits with shared outdoor unit
Smaller shops benefit from one or two splits sharing a single outdoor unit on the shared roof.
- 2
Enhanced moisture-drainage system
With high pressure from heat, humidity and foot traffic, we install reinforced and easy-to-clean drain lines.
- 3
Secure mounting on shared roofs
Outdoor units are carefully secured on shared roofs with consideration for neighbouring shops' safety and operations.
Before the visit
Before our visit in Al Sabeel
- 1
Confirm outdoor unit placement with building management
Before the visit, confirm with building management the best spot on the shared roof without affecting other shops.
- 2
Notify adjacent shops of the installation time
Adjacent shops may be affected by noise or activity, so tell them the work time and duration in advance.
- 3
Ensure safe access to roof and entry
The roof must be safe and the main or rear entry available on visit day to ease equipment movement and installation.

FAQ
Questions about Mall & retail HVAC
How do you handle doors that open onto the street all day?
An open door pushes in hot humid air and spikes the heat load suddenly. We include that load in the design and direct a supply outlet above the entrance to form an air barrier that reduces mixing. The survey confirms which arrangement suits each specific doorway.
Do you install separate units for each mall tenant?
Yes. A separate unit per tenant means each shop controls its own cooling and a fault in one unit does not affect the neighbour. It also makes consumption readings straightforward and makes maintenance responsibility clear for each party.
Why do you prefer rooftop packaged units for malls?
A rooftop packaged unit keeps the condenser and evaporator in one casing above the roof, freeing every inch of shop floor from outdoor units and shortening the duct run. Maintenance happens on the roof without entering the shop, which fits scheduling work outside trading hours.
How do you handle Jeddah's heat and its effect on rooftop units?
Rooftop units in Jeddah work in hot, salty and dusty air that strains the condenser and speeds fin corrosion. We specify units with corrosion-resistant coatings and include coil cleaning and compressor and condenser checks in the preventive schedule of every maintenance contract.
Does air distribution design differ between a small shop and a large mall?
The site survey decides. A small shop may need only a concealed unit with directional grilles, while a mall requires a duct network with dampers zoned by area. In both cases the positions of lighting, visitor traffic and entry doors are recorded before supply outlets are placed.
My shop is slightly larger than typical Al Balad shops, how many splits do I need?
It depends on your actual floor area, the heat load from lighting and expected customer numbers. We visit, review the details and recommend the number and capacity needed.
The street is tight and the roof is shared with other shops, will there be conflicts?
Yes, we coordinate with building management and neighbouring shops beforehand, and carefully position the unit to avoid disruption and interference.
My shop gets heavy foot traffic, can the AC handle the load?
Yes, but the capacity must match the actual heat load. We ask about expected customer numbers and peak times to ensure the system is adequate.
Humidity is damaging my stock, what is the solution?
We select a system with high drainage capacity and ensure regular cleaning of the filter, drain lines and pan to achieve optimal moisture removal.
