Retail cooling without downtime
Mall & retail HVAC in Al Wisami
In Al Wisami, north-east Jeddah, modern malls and shops need AC systems that balance the constant swing of opening doors to Jeddah's heat and customers flowing in and out all day. Alrabih designs and installs systems that control both humidity and temperature together, keeping goods safe from moisture.

When you need a retail HVAC specialist
- 1
A new mall or shopping centre
A poor design from the start means cold zones next to stifling ones and endless tenant complaints. We study the heat load of each zone separately and choose the right unit type before the ceiling is built.
- 2
An existing shop with uneven cooling
The back of the shop is cold while the front near the door stays hot at peak hours. The cause is usually the air outlet layout or the unit size; a site survey identifies which and fixes the problem without replacing the whole system.
- 3
Condensate dripping on shelves or display
A single drip on stock or a glass display front damages the product and the shop's image. The cause is usually weak insulation, a blocked condensate line or an unlevel unit, all of which can be diagnosed and fixed in one visit.
Who it's for
Opening a new shop inside a mall
We design an independent unit for your space and install ductwork and condensate lines before finishing work so your opening is not delayed.
Ask on WhatsAppManaging an existing commercial complex
We review the existing system and set a preventive and corrective maintenance contract scheduled outside trading hours so tenants are not affected.

- Maintenance contracts off peak
How we work
How we work
- 1
Site survey and loads
We visit the site and map every heat source: entrances, lighting, expected crowd density and facade orientation, then size the units correctly for each section.
- 2
Design and materials
We design the duct network in our own workshop from G90 galvanised sheet to dimensions that give even air distribution, and select units from brands we distribute such as Carrier, YORK and Gree.
- 3
Installation coordinated on site
We coordinate installation with the project programme so ductwork does not delay finishing trades, and run Mueller copper in runs of up to 30 metres without welded joints to reduce potential leak points.
- 4
Start-up and maintenance contract
We start up the system and check air distribution in every section, then set a preventive and corrective maintenance schedule timed so work never overlaps with the shop's trading hours.
Designed for the space or just fitted?
| Alrabih | The usual way | |
|---|---|---|
| Air distribution | Load study per zone | One unit for the whole space |
| Ductwork | G90 sheet, sized for the job | Off-the-shelf wrong size |
| Condensate | Dedicated line away from stock | Risk of drips on shelves |
| Maintenance | Scheduled outside shop hours | Surprise outage during trade |
| Copper purity | Mueller copper, 99% pure, no welds | Unspecified pipe source |

What sets this district apart
Al Wisami is a recently developed area of modern malls and retail blocks, mostly large buildings with high ceilings and glass frontages that absorb heavy heat during the day. These spaces need a robust central AC system that handles frequent door openings and distributes cooling evenly across different mall zones. Regular maintenance is essential to prevent unexpected downtime during peak trading hours, and the ducts and plenums need routine cleaning to maintain even air delivery.
Al Wisami lies in Jeddah's north-east, a modern district of contemporary malls, commercial towers and glass-fronted retail blocks.
Most large malls and retail shops here run central AC systems with concealed ducting and suspended ceilings, with multiple air outlets to cover the wide open spaces.
The AC setup in Al Wisami
- 1
Central system with concealed ducting
Modern malls in Al Wisami use central systems with ducting running above suspended ceilings to hide the equipment and preserve the retail aesthetic.
- 2
Multiple air outlets and separate control zones
Large spaces require multiple independent temperature zones to ensure balanced cooling across all sections of the mall.
- 3
Air-handling and humidifying units in the plant room
Central systems include a plant room with air-handling units and humidity control, particularly important for protecting merchandise from coastal moisture.
Before the visit
Before our visit in Al Wisami
- 1
Schedule maintenance outside trading hours
Malls are busy all day, so we agree on a visit time early in the morning or after closing to avoid disrupting customers and staff.
- 2
Brief us on the plant room location and electrical access points
Tell us where the plant room is and show us the main electrical isolator for the system before we arrive, and confirm safe access via stairs or platforms.
- 3
Provide system drawings and access points
If available, send us duct layouts, air outlet locations and electrical details beforehand, as this shortens our site inspection and assessment time.

FAQ
Questions about Mall & retail HVAC
How do you handle doors that open onto the street all day?
An open door pushes in hot humid air and spikes the heat load suddenly. We include that load in the design and direct a supply outlet above the entrance to form an air barrier that reduces mixing. The survey confirms which arrangement suits each specific doorway.
Do you install separate units for each mall tenant?
Yes. A separate unit per tenant means each shop controls its own cooling and a fault in one unit does not affect the neighbour. It also makes consumption readings straightforward and makes maintenance responsibility clear for each party.
Why do you prefer rooftop packaged units for malls?
A rooftop packaged unit keeps the condenser and evaporator in one casing above the roof, freeing every inch of shop floor from outdoor units and shortening the duct run. Maintenance happens on the roof without entering the shop, which fits scheduling work outside trading hours.
How do you handle Jeddah's heat and its effect on rooftop units?
Rooftop units in Jeddah work in hot, salty and dusty air that strains the condenser and speeds fin corrosion. We specify units with corrosion-resistant coatings and include coil cleaning and compressor and condenser checks in the preventive schedule of every maintenance contract.
Does air distribution design differ between a small shop and a large mall?
The site survey decides. A small shop may need only a concealed unit with directional grilles, while a mall requires a duct network with dampers zoned by area. In both cases the positions of lighting, visitor traffic and entry doors are recorded before supply outlets are placed.
Mall doors open constantly throughout the day, does that strain the AC?
Yes, each door opening draws in hot outside air, so the central system must be powerful enough to compensate for rapid loss. Our team chooses the right cooling capacity based on the mall's size and number of entrances.
Our malls have suspended ceilings and hidden ducts, how do you access them for maintenance?
We access from above the suspended ceiling or from the plant room if one exists. When we visit, we agree with you on the best access points and schedule maintenance after mall closing hours.
Heat and dust from outside air enters with customers through the doors, does that affect the ducting?
Yes, dust and coastal humidity settle in the ducts quickly, especially near the entrance zones. Regular duct cleaning maintains cooling efficiency and reduces dust settling on merchandise.
There are many electrical appliances and lighting loads in the mall, does the central AC need its own dedicated power supply?
Yes, a central AC system needs its own separate power supply with adequate cable rating. During design and installation, we check the mall's electrical distribution capacity and ensure the circuit is not overloaded with other loads.
