Split AC installation in Al Shifa

In Al Shifa, south Jeddah, installation accounts for the coastal setting and high humidity that corrodes outdoor-unit metals. Alrabih installs split units with special protection for salt-prone components.

When you need a proper installer

  1. 1

A new unit for a room or flat

You have bought the unit, or are about to, and want it fitted once, not to find a refrigerant leak or water on the floor a few weeks later. Getting it right first time saves you all of that.

  2. 2

Not sure where the outdoor unit goes

In Jeddah flats the choice is usually the roof, the balcony or the facade. We pick a spot where the condenser gets enough air, a technician can reach it for servicing, and neither noise nor drain water bothers the neighbours.

  3. 3

A past install that went wrong

Weak cooling since day one, water running down the wall, a loud indoor unit. These are usually installation mistakes, not faults in the unit, and our installation is built step by step to avoid them.

Who it's for

  • Moving into a new flat that needs AC

We plan every unit position and copper route in one go, so the whole flat ends up neat and consistent.

    Ask on WhatsApp
  • Fitting AC in a shop or office

We place the units so cool air reaches the entrance and the work area, and arrange outdoor units and drains to suit the shopfront and the building's rules.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Send a photo

WhatsApp us a photo of the room, where the outdoor unit might go and your district, and we tell you what the job needs before the visit.

  2. 2

    Agree positions and route

On site, the technician agrees the unit positions and the copper and drain route with you before drilling any wall.

  3. 3

    Fit and vacuum

We mount both units, run and insulate the copper, then vacuum the line with a pump and check the joints before releasing the refrigerant held in the outdoor unit.

  4. 4

    Start-up and handover

We run the unit, measure the air coming out, check the drain flows, then leave the room clean and show you the remote and how to clean the filter.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

Al Shifa is a coastal district close to the sea, with a mix of modern villas and residential blocks near the beach. High humidity and salt in the air accelerate corrosion on outdoor units, particularly metal parts and electrical connections, requiring more frequent cleaning than inland neighbourhoods. Indoor units also accumulate moisture and mould faster. During installation, we carefully route copper and electrical connections to avoid exposure to salt-laden winds, and use additional protective coatings where needed.

Al Shifa lies in south Jeddah near the coast, a coastal residential district of villas and apartment blocks exposed to humidity and salt air.

Most units here are separate splits, and outdoor units need more frequent maintenance because of coastal salt and humidity.

The AC setup in Al Shifa

  1. 1

    Coastal-protected split unit

Units here need extra salt and humidity protection, using stainless-steel connectors and protective coatings on metal parts.

  2. 2

Drains with precise slope to prevent pooling

High humidity increases the risk of water pooling in the drain, so we slope pipes at a steep angle to ensure complete water flow with no standing water.

  3. 3

    Outdoor units with reinforced anchorage

Coastal winds require heavy-duty bases and fasteners; we use dense concrete and stainless-steel brackets.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Shifa

  1. 1

Choose a location away from the sea if possible

If you can choose the outdoor-unit location, select the north side or away from the beach to reduce salt exposure.

  2. 2

    Confirm roof and balcony strength

The roof or balcony must support the added weight of a heavy concrete base and the unit, especially if strong winds are expected.

  3. 3

Mark a safe drain outlet with clear slope

Before the visit, mark where the drain will exit the building, and ensure the route allows continuous slope with no stops.

FAQ

Questions about Split AC installation

Will you install a unit I bought elsewhere?

Yes, we install units you have bought yourself. Before the visit we ask the model, its capacity and where both units will go, so we know the copper length. If you have not bought one yet, we are an authorised distributor for Carrier, YORK, General, Midea, Gree and Smart Gold and can help you choose.

Why does the line need vacuuming before start-up?

New pipes hold air and moisture, and Jeddah's humid air adds more. Mixed with refrigerant, they weaken cooling and strain the compressor over time. We pull them out with a vacuum pump, watch that the reading holds so we know the line is tight, and only then release the refrigerant.

Can the outdoor unit be far from the room?

Yes, within the manufacturer's limits for line length and height difference. We use Mueller copper in runs of up to 30 metres without welded joints, so there are fewer joints that could leak, and the survey shows whether a long run needs extra refrigerant.

Can you hide the copper and cables in the wall?

It depends on the house. In a new build or during finishing works, the copper can run inside the wall before plastering. In a lived-in home we use neat plastic trunking in the wall colour. We show you the better option for your home at the survey, before any work starts.

What if the outside wall cannot carry the unit?

We check the wall before fixing anything, because some facades are clad in stone or panels that cannot take the weight. Then we set the unit on a floor stand on the roof or balcony, or on a bracket anchored to the concrete itself, not the cladding, so it does not shake loose.

Coastal salt affects outdoor units, how do you protect equipment?

We choose stainless-steel electrical connectors and brackets, and may apply extra protective coating to outdoor-unit parts directly exposed to salt air. We recommend cleaning every 3 months to remove salt deposits.

High humidity speeds up mould in the unit, is that normal in Al Shifa?

Yes, high coastal humidity speeds mould growth in the drain pan and coil much faster than inland districts. Regular cleaning is essential, and we ensure during installation that the drain falls correctly with no pooling.

Do coastal winds affect the stability of the outdoor unit?

Coastal winds can be strong, so we use heavy concrete bases and stainless-steel angle brackets with extra anchoring. We inspect stability carefully and recommend annual checks to confirm wind and salt have not loosened the fasteners.

Villas and blocks here sit close to the beach, is there a better location for the outdoor unit?

We prefer mounting the unit on the northern or seaward-facing side if possible, to minimise direct exposure to salt winds and moisture. If the roof is fully exposed, we may suggest a partial protective canopy (not fully sealed, which would block airflow, but a partial shield).
