Window AC installation in Al Balad

In Al Balad at historic Jeddah's heart, window AC installation demands precision because most windows in the old buildings are narrow and their frames may be weak. Alrabih's team levels the frame, seals all gaps against the hot salty dusty air, and ensures condensate drains outward.

When a window unit is the right choice

  1. 1

A room with no outdoor unit space

Some rooms have no wall facing a suitable space for an outdoor unit. A window AC is the practical answer: one unit in the opening cools the room and expels heat directly outside.

  2. 2

An annex, staff housing or storeroom

Annexes, staff rooms and warehouses need real cooling without the cost of long copper and cable runs. A window unit suits these spaces well when the right opening exists or can be made.

  3. 3

An existing window of the right size

When a wall already has a window opening that matches the unit you have chosen, the frame fits straight in without cutting new concrete. We confirm at the survey that the opening suits the unit and the wall carries the load.

Who it's for

  • Need to cool a maid's room or home annex

We survey the opening or proposed wall in the annex, fit the unit in a secure frame and seal every gap so no hot humid air enters the space.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Send a photo

WhatsApp us a photo of the opening or the proposed wall and your district, so the technician arrives with the right frame and fixings.

  2. 2

    Site survey

On site the technician measures the opening, checks the wall, confirms there is a suitable power point near the unit, and agrees with you on any changes needed before starting.

  3. 3

    Fit and seal

We fit the frame level, set the unit with the correct outward tilt, then seal every gap around the frame so no hot air, dust or humidity enters.

  4. 4

    Start-up and handover

We run the unit, check the cooling and confirm condensate flows outward, then leave the space clean and show you how to clean the filter.

What sets this district apart

Al Balad's buildings are much older than Jeddah's modern districts, mostly with thick stone and concrete walls and less robust window frames. The narrow, deep window openings make window AC installation difficult because the weight concentrates on a small span, and the frame must be levelled before any work begins. The coastal location means high humidity and salt in the air, so thorough sealing around the unit is essential to protect both interior and exterior walls from water damage and corrosion.

Al Balad sits at the heart of old Jeddah, a historic district of closely built stone blocks with narrow windows around the popular markets.

Most windows in Al Balad are roughly 1.5 metres high and 30 centimetres deep, requiring precision in choosing the unit size and installation method.

The AC setup in Al Balad

  1. 1

Window unit in a deep stone window opening

Windows in Al Balad's stone buildings are often very deep, so the unit needs a reinforced frame kit and tight sealing across the full depth.

  2. 2

    Condensate drainage via external channels

Because of the thick walls and coastal location, we fit small external drain channels to direct condensate away from the wall and neighbouring buildings.

  3. 3

    Salt and moisture-resistant sealant

Standard sealants do not withstand coastal salt and humidity, so we use specialist materials around the unit frame and window edges.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Balad

  1. 1

Have the frame and wall assessed before the visit

It helps if we know the frame condition beforehand, so tell us about any cracks or weakness you notice in the stone wall or frame.

  2. 2

Ensure the team can access the window from inside and outside

The window may be in a narrow room or at height, so make sure the team can reach it safely from the flat and the street.

  3. 3

    Have exact window measurements ready

The frame depth, window height and width are essential, so have these measurements ready or be present for the initial site visit.

FAQ

Questions about Window AC installation

Can you cut a new opening in the wall if there is none?

Yes, if no suitable opening exists we can cut one. At the survey we check the wall type and thickness and look for columns or cables that might be in the way, then agree the best position with you before any cutting begins.

Why does the outward tilt matter on a window unit?

A window unit produces condensate on its indoor side throughout operation. If the unit sits level or tilts inward, water pools in the base and runs down the inside wall. A slight outward tilt sends that water to the back of the unit and out, away from the wall and furniture.

How do you seal the gaps around the frame given Jeddah's climate?

Jeddah combines high heat, humidity and salty sea air, so sealing materials must hold up in those conditions. We use insulating and sealing materials suited to the opening and wall type, and the survey determines the right choice based on the gap size and wall construction.

Does a window unit need its own power point?

A window unit draws a high current at start-up, and sharing a socket with other appliances strains the wiring and trips the breaker. The technician checks at the survey that a suitable socket is close to the unit position, and if one is not there we explain what is needed before installation proceeds.

Does the weight of a window unit affect how it is fixed?

Yes, the unit's weight directly affects how the frame is fixed and what support is needed. A concrete wall requires different treatment from a brick wall, and a wide opening needs more support than a narrow one. The technician decides at the survey what fixing method and materials suit the unit and the wall.

My old window frame is weak, can it take the weight of a window AC unit?

We visit first to inspect the frame and the wall around it, and may need to reinforce it with additional supports before installation. This ensures the unit is safe and stays safe.

My window opening is very deep in the stone wall, does this complicate the installation?

Yes, Al Balad's thick stone walls mean deep frames, but we adjust the frame angle precisely and seal gaps at every wall layer to prevent water seepage.

Salt and humidity from the sea affect the unit, how do you protect it?

We use moisture and salt-resistant sealing materials around the frame and unit, and confirm the condensate drain is angled correctly outward to avoid corrosion and leaking.

How do you make sure condensate doesn't drip onto the street below?

We fit small drain channels beneath the unit or angle it precisely to direct water safely, so condensate drains efficiently without bothering people or neighbouring properties.
