Window AC installation in Harat Al Mazloum

In Harat Al Mazloum, in historic downtown Jeddah, window AC units sit in older buildings with windows of varying size and condition. Installation demands careful frame inspection, re-levelling and strong sealing because the old construction may not be plumb.

When a window unit is the right choice

  1. 1

A room with no outdoor unit space

Some rooms have no wall facing a suitable space for an outdoor unit. A window AC is the practical answer: one unit in the opening cools the room and expels heat directly outside.

  2. 2

An annex, staff housing or storeroom

Annexes, staff rooms and warehouses need real cooling without the cost of long copper and cable runs. A window unit suits these spaces well when the right opening exists or can be made.

  3. 3

An existing window of the right size

When a wall already has a window opening that matches the unit you have chosen, the frame fits straight in without cutting new concrete. We confirm at the survey that the opening suits the unit and the wall carries the load.

Who it's for

  • Need to cool a maid's room or home annex

We survey the opening or proposed wall in the annex, fit the unit in a secure frame and seal every gap so no hot humid air enters the space.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Send a photo

WhatsApp us a photo of the opening or the proposed wall and your district, so the technician arrives with the right frame and fixings.

  2. 2

    Site survey

On site the technician measures the opening, checks the wall, confirms there is a suitable power point near the unit, and agrees with you on any changes needed before starting.

  3. 3

    Fit and seal

We fit the frame level, set the unit with the correct outward tilt, then seal every gap around the frame so no hot air, dust or humidity enters.

  4. 4

    Start-up and handover

We run the unit, check the cooling and confirm condensate flows outward, then leave the space clean and show you how to clean the filter.

What sets this district apart

Harat Al Mazloum holds old residential buildings and shops closely packed with relatively narrow windows and wood or steel frames that may be warped or worn from age. Fitting a window unit here demands close frame inspection and may need minor repairs before installation, plus very tight sealing because narrow streets and coastal proximity mean high humidity and salt creeping through any gap. All of this must be coordinated with the flat occupant or shop owner.

Harat Al Mazloum sits at the heart of historic downtown Jeddah, a district of old closely built blocks with windows of varied shapes and sizes.

Most windows here have old wooden or steel frames that may be uneven or cracked, requiring extra preparation before fitting a window unit.

The AC setup in Harat Al Mazloum

  1. 1

Window unit in old wooden frame

Most old wooden frames here can support a window unit after inspection and, if needed, addition of metal brackets for support.

  2. 2

Metal brackets to reinforce weak frames

If the wooden or steel frame is weak, we install steel brackets below the unit to carry its weight safely.

  3. 3

Strong seal against coastal salt and damp

We apply moisture and salt-resistant insulation around the frame and any cracks to protect the interior from coastal salt and damp air.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Harat Al Mazloum

  1. 1

Inspect the condition of the wooden or metal frame

Check that the frame is not badly cracked or deteriorated, and tell us about any obvious weakness before the visit time.

  2. 2

Coordinate with the flat resident or shop owner

If you are in a flat or shop, tell the owner about the visit time in advance, as the work may take time and we may need the window open.

  3. 3

Ensure outdoor access below the window

Check that the outdoor area below the window is safe and accessible to the team, especially if the window is high up or in a ground-floor shop.

FAQ

Questions about Window AC installation

Can you cut a new opening in the wall if there is none?

Yes, if no suitable opening exists we can cut one. At the survey we check the wall type and thickness and look for columns or cables that might be in the way, then agree the best position with you before any cutting begins.

Why does the outward tilt matter on a window unit?

A window unit produces condensate on its indoor side throughout operation. If the unit sits level or tilts inward, water pools in the base and runs down the inside wall. A slight outward tilt sends that water to the back of the unit and out, away from the wall and furniture.

How do you seal the gaps around the frame given Jeddah's climate?

Jeddah combines high heat, humidity and salty sea air, so sealing materials must hold up in those conditions. We use insulating and sealing materials suited to the opening and wall type, and the survey determines the right choice based on the gap size and wall construction.

Does a window unit need its own power point?

A window unit draws a high current at start-up, and sharing a socket with other appliances strains the wiring and trips the breaker. The technician checks at the survey that a suitable socket is close to the unit position, and if one is not there we explain what is needed before installation proceeds.

Does the weight of a window unit affect how it is fixed?

Yes, the unit's weight directly affects how the frame is fixed and what support is needed. A concrete wall requires different treatment from a brick wall, and a wide opening needs more support than a narrow one. The technician decides at the survey what fixing method and materials suit the unit and the wall.

My window frame is old wood, is it suitable for a unit?

We inspect the wood first to check its strength. If it is weak or cracked we add metal brackets to carry the unit's weight safely rather than relying on the wood alone.

My window is not quite level, is that a problem?

Yes, an unlevel window will prevent water from draining outward. We use metal shims to lift one side of the unit slightly to ensure the correct outward tilt.

Does the high humidity here affect the window unit?

Coastal humidity and sea proximity speed up mould and rust, but a tight seal around the frame limits damp air entry, and we inspect the unit's joints after fitting.

The street is very narrow, how do you bring the equipment and unit?

Our team carries the unit and tools by hand through the narrow passage, we agree on the nearest parking point, and we coordinate the visit time with occupants.
