When a window unit is the right choice

  1. 1

A room with no outdoor unit space

Some rooms have no wall facing a suitable space for an outdoor unit. A window AC is the practical answer: one unit in the opening cools the room and expels heat directly outside.

  2. 2

An annex, staff housing or storeroom

Annexes, staff rooms and warehouses need real cooling without the cost of long copper and cable runs. A window unit suits these spaces well when the right opening exists or can be made.

  3. 3

An existing window of the right size

When a wall already has a window opening that matches the unit you have chosen, the frame fits straight in without cutting new concrete. We confirm at the survey that the opening suits the unit and the wall carries the load.

Who it's for

  • Need to cool a maid's room or home annex

We survey the opening or proposed wall in the annex, fit the unit in a secure frame and seal every gap so no hot humid air enters the space.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Send a photo

WhatsApp us a photo of the opening or the proposed wall and your district, so the technician arrives with the right frame and fixings.

  2. 2

    Site survey

On site the technician measures the opening, checks the wall, confirms there is a suitable power point near the unit, and agrees with you on any changes needed before starting.

  3. 3

    Fit and seal

We fit the frame level, set the unit with the correct outward tilt, then seal every gap around the frame so no hot air, dust or humidity enters.

  4. 4

    Start-up and handover

We run the unit, check the cooling and confirm condensate flows outward, then leave the space clean and show you how to clean the filter.

  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.

What sets this district apart

Al Safa is a dense commercial and residential hub mixing medium and small flats with shops lining main thoroughfares, and many residents favour window units because they cost less than split systems and fit tight spaces. But the older concrete base of some buildings means frames may be in varying condition, and close-packed buildings limit natural ventilation behind the unit, so tight sealing is vital to block heat and dust, which accumulates fast in this central zone.

Al Safa sits in central Jeddah, a mixed residential and commercial zone of busy main streets and multi-use buildings.

Window frames here vary: some are modern and sound, others are older and need reinforcement before unit installation.

The AC setup in Al Safa

  1. 1

Single units in small and medium flats

Most small Al Safa flats install one window unit in the living room or main bedroom.

  2. 2

Window units in shops and offices

Shops in Al Safa often use window units because there is no space for split-system outdoor units.

  3. 3

Frames in varying condition requiring individual assessment

The mixed building stock in Al Safa means frames in varying states, so each window needs individual strength assessment before fitting.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Safa

  1. 1

Clear internal space around the window

Al Safa's small flats have limited space, so clear the area around the window of furniture and curtains before we arrive.

  2. 2

Coordinate with the shop owner if applicable

If the window unit is in a shop, tell the owner about the installation time to avoid disrupting business hours.

  3. 3

Check the frame and glass condition

Inspect the frame before our visit to spot whether it needs reinforcement, and let us know of any visible cracks or distortion.

FAQ

Questions about Window AC installation

Can you cut a new opening in the wall if there is none?

Yes, if no suitable opening exists we can cut one. At the survey we check the wall type and thickness and look for columns or cables that might be in the way, then agree the best position with you before any cutting begins.

Why does the outward tilt matter on a window unit?

A window unit produces condensate on its indoor side throughout operation. If the unit sits level or tilts inward, water pools in the base and runs down the inside wall. A slight outward tilt sends that water to the back of the unit and out, away from the wall and furniture.

How do you seal the gaps around the frame given Jeddah's climate?

Jeddah combines high heat, humidity and salty sea air, so sealing materials must hold up in those conditions. We use insulating and sealing materials suited to the opening and wall type, and the survey determines the right choice based on the gap size and wall construction.

Does a window unit need its own power point?

A window unit draws a high current at start-up, and sharing a socket with other appliances strains the wiring and trips the breaker. The technician checks at the survey that a suitable socket is close to the unit position, and if one is not there we explain what is needed before installation proceeds.

Does the weight of a window unit affect how it is fixed?

Yes, the unit's weight directly affects how the frame is fixed and what support is needed. A concrete wall requires different treatment from a brick wall, and a wide opening needs more support than a narrow one. The technician decides at the survey what fixing method and materials suit the unit and the wall.

My flat is very small, is a window unit suitable?

Yes, window units save space and are safe for small flats, but we check the right unit size based on room count and sun exposure.

My window frames are old and may be worn, what do you recommend?

We inspect the frame and material before installation, and if it needs strengthening we add safe metal braces before fitting the unit.

The street is narrow and heat is intense in Al Safa, can the unit cope?

Window units work well in high heat, but dust and reflected heat from close-packed buildings raise the load, so we recommend regular cleaning and a heat-reflective shade.

Water from my unit might drip on my neighbour below, how do you handle that?

We set the outward tilt precisely and direct drainage away from the unit below, fit a drip channel if needed, and test drainage before start-up.
