Central AC for apartments

Apartment central AC in Al Bawadi

In Al Bawadi, central Jeddah, installing central AC in flats combines tight ceiling constraints with the need to conceal ducts cleanly without compromising air quality. Alrabih designs the distribution carefully to minimise heat leakage and noise.

When central AC makes sense in your flat

  1. 1

    New flat before finishing

The finishing stage is the right time to install central AC. The ceiling is open and walls are ready for copper and drain routes, so there is no need later to cut plaster or damage finished surfaces.

  2. 2

Occupied flat where splits fall short

If splits leave hot and cold patches, or the noise bothers you at night, central AC distributes air evenly and hides the unit away from the room. A site survey decides whether your ceiling height allows it.

  3. 3

    Your unit disturbs the neighbours

In apartments, neighbours hear unit vibration through shared ceilings and walls. We choose the indoor unit suspension point carefully and use flexible collars on the air outlets to absorb vibration before it reaches the building structure.

Who it's for

  • Living in a furnished flat and want to replace splits

We survey your ceiling void to see whether a concealed unit fits, then run copper and drain without disturbing the existing décor.

  • Buying a flat in a building under construction

We coordinate with the finishing stage to run copper, drain and ducts before ceilings and walls are closed, so every route stays fully concealed.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Ceiling and route survey

We measure the available ceiling void, decide where the indoor unit hangs, map the copper route and find where condensate drains without causing damp. The survey decides whether one zone or more suits the flat.

  2. 2

    Run copper and drain

We run insulated Mueller copper in the void above the suspended ceiling and slope the condensate line towards the building drain or an external outlet, so no standing water causes odour or damp.

  3. 3

    Fit ducts and outlets

We mount the indoor unit on vibration-absorbing hangers, route ducts to each room and place every outlet so air spreads evenly without blowing cold air directly onto anyone.

  4. 4

    Vacuum, test and hand over

We vacuum the copper line to remove air and moisture, check all joints, then run the unit and confirm cooling in every room before we hand over.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

Al Bawadi is a dense residential area with medium-sized, relatively older apartment blocks and very limited ceiling depth. Central AC here needs meticulous planning because the indoor units must be completely hidden in corridor or bathroom ceilings without making the spaces feel tighter. Al Bawadi's moderate humidity means insulation and drainage must be highly effective to prevent condensation and water dripping onto flats below.

Al Bawadi sits in central Jeddah, a dense residential area of medium-sized flats with limited ceiling space.

Most flats here have suspended ceilings with shallow depth, which means we must use slim-profile ducts and very careful planning.

The AC setup in Al Bawadi

  1. 1

Indoor unit in bathroom or corridor ceiling

Flats in Al Bawadi need the unit completely hidden, so we place it in bathroom or corridor ceilings with minimal visual impact.

  2. 2

    Slim ducts with thick insulation

Tight voids demand slim ducts, but we do not compromise on insulation thickness to preserve cooling and prevent condensation.

  3. 3

Fully insulated and sloped drainage system

Drain pipes are thickly insulated and fully sloped to prevent water dripping onto the flats below.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Bawadi

  1. 1

Measure the void between floor and ceiling

Before we visit, measure the distance from the original floor to the suspended ceiling in the corridor and bathroom so we know if installation is feasible.

  2. 2

Give us details about the existing ceiling

Tell us whether the ceiling is suspended or attached directly to the slab, and whether the panels are wooden, plasterboard, or metal.

  3. 3

Choose a safe location for the outdoor unit

The outdoor unit may need an opening on the facade or balcony. Make sure the location is safe and away from neighbours' windows.

FAQ

Questions about Apartment central AC

Is there enough ceiling space in a flat for a central unit?

It varies between flats. Slim ceiling cassettes need less void depth than full ducted units. A site survey measures what is available and decides the right type; if the corridor ceiling is too shallow we look at a storage room or bathroom ceiling instead.

Is one unit enough for the whole flat or do I need more?

It depends on the flat's area, room layout and how much sun each side receives. Two- and three-bedroom flats can sometimes work with one unit and well-planned ducts; larger flats or those with separate zones may need two. The survey decides.

Where does the outdoor unit go when the flat has no large balcony?

Options include the shared roof if the building rules allow it, a facade bracket away from neighbours' windows, or the balcony if it can take the load. We review the building's rules before recommending any position.

Jeddah's air is very humid; does that affect the condensate drain?

Yes. In Jeddah the indoor unit produces more condensate because of the high humidity. We make sure the drain line has enough fall, that the horizontal run before it drops is not too long, and that the outlet does not conflict with other flats' drainage in the building.

Can the flat be split into two zones with different temperatures?

It is possible using two separate indoor units or by adding variable-flow dampers on the duct runs. The right choice depends on the flat's layout and the ceiling void available in each zone. A site survey decides which approach suits your room arrangement.

Is central AC possible in an older flat with a very tight ceiling?

It depends on the actual measurements of the void between floor and suspended ceiling. We visit, measure precisely, and tell you whether the space can accommodate ducts.

The indoor unit takes ceiling space, will that make the corridor feel cramped?

Not if we plan carefully. We position it in a less-used area of the corridor or bathroom so you do not feel the space shrinks.

Al Bawadi's humidity might cause dripping from the ceiling, how do you handle it?

We use thick insulated drain pipes sloped fully toward a sink or external outlet, and test the system before finishing.

Can you work with ceilings that are already installed?

Yes, we carefully open the existing panels, route the ducts between them, and close them again. In some cases we may need to add supports if the panels are weak.
