Central AC for apartments

Apartment central AC in Al Tilal

In Al Tilal, east Jeddah, fitting central AC in residential flats demands careful understanding of interior spacing and ceiling design. When central AC makes sense in your flat

  1. 1

    New flat before finishing

The finishing stage is the right time to install central AC. The ceiling is open and walls are ready for copper and drain routes, so there is no need later to cut plaster or damage finished surfaces.

  2. 2

Occupied flat where splits fall short

If splits leave hot and cold patches, or the noise bothers you at night, central AC distributes air evenly and hides the unit away from the room. A site survey decides whether your ceiling height allows it.

  3. 3

    Your unit disturbs the neighbours

In apartments, neighbours hear unit vibration through shared ceilings and walls. We choose the indoor unit suspension point carefully and use flexible collars on the air outlets to absorb vibration before it reaches the building structure.

Who it's for

  • Living in a furnished flat and want to replace splits

We survey your ceiling void to see whether a concealed unit fits, then run copper and drain without disturbing the existing décor.

  • Buying a flat in a building under construction

We coordinate with the finishing stage to run copper, drain and ducts before ceilings and walls are closed, so every route stays fully concealed.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Ceiling and route survey

We measure the available ceiling void, decide where the indoor unit hangs, map the copper route and find where condensate drains without causing damp. The survey decides whether one zone or more suits the flat.

  2. 2

    Run copper and drain

We run insulated Mueller copper in the void above the suspended ceiling and slope the condensate line towards the building drain or an external outlet, so no standing water causes odour or damp.

  3. 3

    Fit ducts and outlets

We mount the indoor unit on vibration-absorbing hangers, route ducts to each room and place every outlet so air spreads evenly without blowing cold air directly onto anyone.

  4. 4

    Vacuum, test and hand over

We vacuum the copper line to remove air and moisture, check all joints, then run the unit and confirm cooling in every room before we hand over.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

Al Tilal is a relatively modern residential district mixing flats of varied sizes with different architectural designs and ceiling styles, ranging from standard plasterboard to prefab ceilings to ornate decoration. This variety means each flat may need a bespoke central AC solution, especially if it has high ceilings in one area and low ceilings in another. Ductwork must respect other systems such as electrical circuits, plumbing and existing AC, and drainage requires careful study to prevent damp in shared walls.

Al Tilal sits in east Jeddah, a modern residential zone with varied building architecture and interior designs.

Al Tilal flats range from 100 to 250 square metres and feature diverse interior designs that each require individual study before central AC installation.

The AC setup in Al Tilal

  1. 1

Flexible indoor unit design by space type

Al Tilal's varied flats may need different indoor unit styles, such as horizontal units for high ceilings or compact vertical units for tight hallways.

  2. 2

    Flexible ducts with zone-separated joints

We use flexible ducts and separate sections per area, allowing later adjustment and avoiding conflicts with other systems.

  3. 3

    Multiple drainage points as needed

Instead of a single drain point, we may use multiple smaller drainage locations across the flat to reduce the risk of damp on shared walls.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Tilal

  1. 1

Provide the flat's architectural plan if available

If you have the original flat plan, send it so we can pre-plot duct routes and unit placement before the visit.

  2. 2

Mark existing electrical and plumbing locations

Before the visit, tell us where the main electrical circuits and plumbing pipes are, both visible and hidden, especially in ceilings and hallways.

  3. 3

Ensure ceiling and void access is clear

Check that the ceiling void is accessible through existing hatch points or whether new access points will be needed.

FAQ

Questions about Apartment central AC

Is there enough ceiling space in a flat for a central unit?

It varies between flats. Slim ceiling cassettes need less void depth than full ducted units. A site survey measures what is available and decides the right type; if the corridor ceiling is too shallow we look at a storage room or bathroom ceiling instead.

Is one unit enough for the whole flat or do I need more?

It depends on the flat's area, room layout and how much sun each side receives. Two- and three-bedroom flats can sometimes work with one unit and well-planned ducts; larger flats or those with separate zones may need two. The survey decides.

Where does the outdoor unit go when the flat has no large balcony?

Options include the shared roof if the building rules allow it, a facade bracket away from neighbours' windows, or the balcony if it can take the load. We review the building's rules before recommending any position.

Jeddah's air is very humid; does that affect the condensate drain?

Yes. In Jeddah the indoor unit produces more condensate because of the high humidity. We make sure the drain line has enough fall, that the horizontal run before it drops is not too long, and that the outlet does not conflict with other flats' drainage in the building.

Can the flat be split into two zones with different temperatures?

It is possible using two separate indoor units or by adding variable-flow dampers on the duct runs. The right choice depends on the flat's layout and the ceiling void available in each zone. A site survey decides which approach suits your room arrangement.

My flat has high ceilings in some rooms and low in others, can the AC reach all rooms?

Yes, we study the flat layout first and choose duct routes to work with varied ceiling heights. We may use flexible sections or separate zones per area to ensure even air distribution.

The flat has many electrical wires and plumbing pipes, how do you route the ducts?

We map all existing electrical and plumbing routes before starting, plot duct paths to avoid any crossing or conflict, and coordinate with electricians or plumbers if needed.

The prefab ceiling might be damaged by ductwork, how do you preserve it?

We assess the prefab ceiling type first and avoid breaching weight-bearing structures. If needed, we use brackets and clips approved for that specific ceiling type.

The flat has an old window unit, must it be removed before fitting central AC?

Not necessarily. If the window unit doesn't block ductwork or drainage, it can stay. But if it's an obstruction, we recommend removing it and resealing the window after installation.
