When you need a medical HVAC specialist

  1. 1

    Hospital or clinic under construction

The right design starts before any duct is installed, because ventilation and filtration needs differ from the surgical suite to the waiting area. An early survey saves costly alterations after the building is finished.

  2. 2

Departments reporting warm air or odours

In an existing medical building, weak cooling in one department or odours crossing into an adjacent area signals an imbalance in the air distribution or extraction system. Finding the cause needs measurement, not guesswork.

  3. 3

Maintenance contract for a running facility

A hospital does not close for equipment servicing. We schedule preventive maintenance visits department by department, coordinated with facility management, and carry out repairs with the smallest possible effect on daily operations.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Survey and requirements

We visit the facility, map the heat loads and air requirements for each department, and agree the duct routes before any design work begins.

  2. 2

    Design and supply

We design the duct network and fabricate it in our own workshop to SMACNA specifications, and supply units from our authorised brands: Carrier, YORK, General, Midea, Gree and Smart Gold.

  3. 3

    Phased coordinated installation

In operating buildings we work with management to phase the installation so adjacent departments stay open, and control dust and noise away from patient areas.

  4. 4

    Commissioning and follow-up

We commission the systems, measure airflow in each department, and adjust the dampers until the design requirements are met, then hand over the facility with a maintenance plan.

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.

What sets this district apart

Al Riyadh is an eastern district with a mix of modern government and private hospitals, some relatively older and needing upgrades. Roads here are orderly and space adequate for cooling units and maintenance. Heat in the east is slightly lower than coastal areas but humidity remains high due to relative sea proximity. Hospital cooling systems here need continuous care, as failure directly impacts critical wards like intensive care and emergency surgery.

Al Riyadh is an eastern Jeddah district with government and private hospitals at varying stages of development, moderate heat and coastal humidity.

Hospital cooling systems here range from modern central units to older equipment needing replacement, with ductwork distributed across multiple departments.

The AC setup in Al Riyadh

  1. 1

Modern central systems in newer hospitals

Newer Al Riyadh hospitals have advanced central chillers and expanded ductwork with smart controls.

  2. 2

    Mixed systems in older hospitals

Some older hospitals here use a mix of central, split and window units, requiring complex maintenance across multiple types.

  3. 3

Secondary units for critical care areas

Operating theatres and ICUs here typically have dedicated secondary units ensuring stability and safety.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Riyadh

  1. 1

Assess current system condition before contacting us

Check for leaks or strange sounds in units and report any issues so we can prepare appropriate tools before the visit.

  2. 2

Prioritise which wards need servicing first

If the system is large and complex, agree with us on priorities: which wards need urgent service and which can wait briefly.

  3. 3

Secure team access to plant rooms and roofs

Ask the hospital to secure access routes, unlock doors and prepare safe areas for reaching cooling units and ductwork before the visit day.

FAQ

Questions about Hospital HVAC

How do ventilation needs differ across hospital departments?

Ventilation needs vary from one department to the next based on the activity in each area and the requirements set by the facility's designer and the site survey. Operating theatres need highly filtered, directionally controlled air, while patient rooms, corridors and administrative areas each carry different requirements. We build the duct network and select units from the facility's drawings and its specific requirements, not from general assumptions.

Can systems be maintained without stopping sensitive departments?

Yes, but it requires careful planning before the maintenance date. We agree with facility management on a schedule that names the section and the right time window, then isolate the target section using dampers and blanking plates without affecting adjacent departments. Corrective tasks such as replacing a capacitor or repairing a flare joint are carried out within the agreed time window.

What governs duct network design in a medical building?

Design is governed by the approved facility drawings and each department's requirements as defined by the site survey and the specialist designer. We fabricate ducts in our own workshop from G90 galvanised sheet to project dimensions, and use Kimmco and Armaflex insulation with Foster sealants to control leakage. Distribution and pressure in each section follow the specifications drawn for that department individually.

Do you work with small clinics or only hospitals?

We work with medical facilities of all sizes, from a clinic in a residential district to a multi-storey medical complex. The size of the facility does not change the principle: the site survey is the starting point, and from it we determine unit types, duct dimensions and fresh-air requirements for each zone. Preventive and corrective maintenance contracts are available for clinics and hospitals alike.

Our hospital is older, does the cooling system need complete replacement?

We start with a detailed inspection to assess the current system. If the core is sound, partial replacements and intensive maintenance may suffice. If the system is worn, we develop a phased replacement plan without halting service.

Can older hospital wings be integrated with new wings on a single system?

Yes, systems can be unified, but requires comprehensive engineering review of old and new structures, and may need ductwork modifications and intermediate units.

Older hospital wards have high humidity, does this cause cooling problems?

Yes, excess humidity increases condenser load and accelerates metal corrosion. We recommend supplementary dehumidifiers in older wards and intensive condenser maintenance schedules.

How often should we clean the cooling filters in the hospital?

We recommend filter cleaning every one to two months depending on load and dust. In critical areas like theatres, weekly cleaning may be needed. We include a cleaning schedule in the maintenance quote.
