When you need a medical HVAC specialist

  1. 1

    Hospital or clinic under construction

The right design starts before any duct is installed, because ventilation and filtration needs differ from the surgical suite to the waiting area. An early survey saves costly alterations after the building is finished.

  2. 2

Departments reporting warm air or odours

In an existing medical building, weak cooling in one department or odours crossing into an adjacent area signals an imbalance in the air distribution or extraction system. Finding the cause needs measurement, not guesswork.

  3. 3

Maintenance contract for a running facility

A hospital does not close for equipment servicing. We schedule preventive maintenance visits department by department, coordinated with facility management, and carry out repairs with the smallest possible effect on daily operations.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Survey and requirements

We visit the facility, map the heat loads and air requirements for each department, and agree the duct routes before any design work begins.

  2. 2

    Design and supply

We design the duct network and fabricate it in our own workshop to SMACNA specifications, and supply units from our authorised brands: Carrier, YORK, General, Midea, Gree and Smart Gold.

  3. 3

    Phased coordinated installation

In operating buildings we work with management to phase the installation so adjacent departments stay open, and control dust and noise away from patient areas.

  4. 4

    Commissioning and follow-up

We commission the systems, measure airflow in each department, and adjust the dampers until the design requirements are met, then hand over the facility with a maintenance plan.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

Al Zahra's districts house relatively modern hospitals and specialist clinics spread across wide grounds with car parks and green spaces, unlike the dense central blocks. This layout allows more flexibility in mounting outdoor units and ductwork, but demands precise design to blanket different departments with even pressure and cooling, especially operating theatres and intensive care units that need tight control of temperature and humidity.

Al Zahra lies in west Jeddah, a relatively modern residential and medical zone with hospitals and specialist clinics spread across open land.

Al Zahra's hospitals typically run multi-purpose central systems serving diverse wards, with separate package units for each critical department.

The AC setup in Al Zahra

  1. 1

    Multi-purpose central system

The hospital needs a robust central cooling plant serving corridors and general wards, with the flexibility to control each department individually.

  2. 2

Separate package units for critical areas

Operating theatres, intensive care and laboratories need independent units with fine-tuned temperature and humidity control.

  3. 3

    Extended ductwork for even distribution

The hospital's size requires extended ductwork and precise pressure balancing to deliver controlled air to every department.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Zahra

  1. 1

    Obtain the hospital's architectural drawings

Provide us with the building's plans before the visit so we can assess ductwork routes, outdoor unit placement and mounting points.

  2. 2

    Confirm non-critical department schedules

Tell us when general wards and administrative offices are least busy so we can plan the first survey around them and avoid surgery times.

  3. 3

Ensure team access to the roof and outdoor zones

Check that our team can safely access the roof and outdoor areas to inspect the outdoor units, ductwork and drainage.

FAQ

Questions about Hospital HVAC

How do ventilation needs differ across hospital departments?

Ventilation needs vary from one department to the next based on the activity in each area and the requirements set by the facility's designer and the site survey. Operating theatres need highly filtered, directionally controlled air, while patient rooms, corridors and administrative areas each carry different requirements. We build the duct network and select units from the facility's drawings and its specific requirements, not from general assumptions.

Can systems be maintained without stopping sensitive departments?

Yes, but it requires careful planning before the maintenance date. We agree with facility management on a schedule that names the section and the right time window, then isolate the target section using dampers and blanking plates without affecting adjacent departments. Corrective tasks such as replacing a capacitor or repairing a flare joint are carried out within the agreed time window.

What governs duct network design in a medical building?

Design is governed by the approved facility drawings and each department's requirements as defined by the site survey and the specialist designer. We fabricate ducts in our own workshop from G90 galvanised sheet to project dimensions, and use Kimmco and Armaflex insulation with Foster sealants to control leakage. Distribution and pressure in each section follow the specifications drawn for that department individually.

Do you work with small clinics or only hospitals?

We work with medical facilities of all sizes, from a clinic in a residential district to a multi-storey medical complex. The size of the facility does not change the principle: the site survey is the starting point, and from it we determine unit types, duct dimensions and fresh-air requirements for each zone. Preventive and corrective maintenance contracts are available for clinics and hospitals alike.

How do you design cooling for a hospital with different departments?

We survey the whole building, understand each department's temperature and humidity needs, then design a central system that delivers independent control to each department without one affecting another.

Can you do routine maintenance without disrupting medical services?

Yes, we coordinate maintenance with the hospital to avoid theatre and critical care times, cleaning ducts and checking pipes at set times that do not disrupt patients or staff.

Jeddah's coastal humidity affects hospital systems, how do you manage it?

We specify robust dehumidification units and drainage pipes, and calibrate humidifier or dehumidifier settings to each department's need, particularly in theatres.

The hospital runs 24 hours, can you respond fast if something fails?

We provide emergency contact numbers and regular scheduled maintenance to minimise breakdown risk, and dispatch a team urgently to site if an emergency occurs to restore operation.
