Retail cooling without downtime
Mall & retail HVAC in Al Ala
In Al Ala, north-east Jeddah, retail HVAC must handle shifting heat loads throughout the day as customers flow in and out, lighting runs strong and doors open onto the heat outside. Alrabih designs and installs HVAC systems that balance comfort and efficiency while keeping goods safe.

When you need a retail HVAC specialist
- 1
A new mall or shopping centre
A poor design from the start means cold zones next to stifling ones and endless tenant complaints. We study the heat load of each zone separately and choose the right unit type before the ceiling is built.
- 2
An existing shop with uneven cooling
The back of the shop is cold while the front near the door stays hot at peak hours. The cause is usually the air outlet layout or the unit size; a site survey identifies which and fixes the problem without replacing the whole system.
- 3
Condensate dripping on shelves or display
A single drip on stock or a glass display front damages the product and the shop's image. The cause is usually weak insulation, a blocked condensate line or an unlevel unit, all of which can be diagnosed and fixed in one visit.
Who it's for
Opening a new shop inside a mall
We design an independent unit for your space and install ductwork and condensate lines before finishing work so your opening is not delayed.

We review the existing system and set a preventive and corrective maintenance contract scheduled outside trading hours so tenants are not affected.

How we work
How we work
- 1
Site survey and loads
We visit the site and map every heat source: entrances, lighting, expected crowd density and facade orientation, then size the units correctly for each section.
- 2
Design and materials
We design the duct network in our own workshop from G90 galvanised sheet to dimensions that give even air distribution, and select units from brands we distribute such as Carrier, YORK and Gree.
- 3
Installation coordinated on site
We coordinate installation with the project programme so ductwork does not delay finishing trades, and run Mueller copper in runs of up to 30 metres without welded joints to reduce potential leak points.
- 4
Start-up and maintenance contract
We start up the system and check air distribution in every section, then set a preventive and corrective maintenance schedule timed so work never overlaps with the shop's trading hours.
Designed for the space or just fitted?
| Alrabih | The usual way | |

| Condensate | Dedicated line away from stock | Risk of drips on shelves |
| Maintenance | Scheduled outside shop hours | Surprise outage during trade |
| Copper purity | Mueller copper, 99% pure, no welds | Unspecified pipe source |

What sets this district apart
Al Ala has modern malls and retail strips spread across spacious layouts with large car parks and regular roads that ease access. This modern planning allows for efficient central HVAC and ductwork distribution, but demands careful design to cover entry zones, display areas and back stores. Malls especially face high humidity as open doors draw moist air from outside, and any lapse in maintenance affects display quality and customer comfort.
Al Ala lies in north-east Jeddah, a modern growth district combining large malls and organized retail along wide streets.
Most malls and larger retail outlets here run central AC systems with distributed ductwork, whilst smaller shops and standalone stores may use multiple split units.
The AC setup in Al Ala
- 1
Central AC with distributed ductwork
Malls and large retail outlets here benefit from modern design and open layouts to run a single central system covering all sections.
- 2
Multiple split units for smaller retail shops
Smaller and individual shops opt for separate split units per section for space division and independent control.
- 3
Advanced humidity management system
Malls and retail spaces need dedicated humidity control for moisture entering through open doors and foot traffic, so we install integrated air-drying systems in the main unit.

FAQ
Questions about Mall & retail HVAC
How do you handle doors that open onto the street all day?
An open door pushes in hot humid air and spikes the heat load suddenly. We include that load in the design and direct a supply outlet above the entrance to form an air barrier that reduces mixing. The survey confirms which arrangement suits each specific doorway.
Do you install separate units for each mall tenant?
Yes. A separate unit per tenant means each shop controls its own cooling and a fault in one unit does not affect the neighbour. It also makes consumption readings straightforward and makes maintenance responsibility clear for each party.
Why do you prefer rooftop packaged units for malls?
A rooftop packaged unit keeps the condenser and evaporator in one casing above the roof, freeing every inch of shop floor from outdoor units and shortening the duct run. Maintenance happens on the roof without entering the shop, which fits scheduling work outside trading hours.
How do you handle Jeddah's heat and its effect on rooftop units?
Rooftop units in Jeddah work in hot, salty and dusty air that strains the condenser and speeds fin corrosion. We specify units with corrosion-resistant coatings and include coil cleaning and compressor and condenser checks in the preventive schedule of every maintenance contract.
Does air distribution design differ between a small shop and a large mall?
The site survey decides. A small shop may need only a concealed unit with directional grilles, while a mall requires a duct network with dampers zoned by area. In both cases the positions of lighting, visitor traffic and entry doors are recorded before supply outlets are placed.
My shop has large open doors to the street, how do you manage cold loss?
We design the ductwork to deliver extra cooling at the entry and door zones, and use pressure balancing to prevent cold air escaping outside.
The shop lighting is very intense and generates heat, can the system handle it?
Yes, we factor the lighting load into the thermal capacity design, and select outdoor units with sufficient power to absorb that extra heat.
My shop is in a mall with tight space, can you fit a central AC system?
Yes, we design compact central units and slim ducts to fit tight spaces, and need minimal outdoor area if we mount a ceiling or wall unit in the storage zone.
When can I schedule maintenance without closing the shop?
We work Saturday to Thursday, 8 am to 8 pm, and routine maintenance happens outside peak hours; urgent calls we handle as quickly as possible to minimise disruption.
