Retail cooling without downtime

Mall & retail HVAC in Al Hazza'iyah

In Al Hazza'iyah, north-east Jeddah, malls and shops face hourly shifts in heat load as doors open to the sun, lighting runs at full strength and customer traffic rises and falls. Alrabih designs central or multi-split systems that hold steady temperature and humidity and keep moisture away from stock.

When you need a retail HVAC specialist

  1. 1

A new mall or shopping centre

A poor design from the start means cold zones next to stifling ones and endless tenant complaints. We study the heat load of each zone separately and choose the right unit type before the ceiling is built.

  2. 2

An existing shop with uneven cooling

The back of the shop is cold while the front near the door stays hot at peak hours. The cause is usually the air outlet layout or the unit size; a site survey identifies which and fixes the problem without replacing the whole system.

  3. 3

Condensate dripping on shelves or display

A single drip on stock or a glass display front damages the product and the shop's image. The cause is usually weak insulation, a blocked condensate line or an unlevel unit, all of which can be diagnosed and fixed in one visit.

Who it's for

  • Opening a new shop inside a mall

We design an independent unit for your space and install ductwork and condensate lines before finishing work so your opening is not delayed.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Site survey and loads

We visit the site and map every heat source: entrances, lighting, expected crowd density and facade orientation, then size the units correctly for each section.

  2. 2

    Design and materials

We design the duct network in our own workshop from G90 galvanised sheet to dimensions that give even air distribution, and select units from brands we distribute such as Carrier, YORK and Gree.

  3. 3

    Installation coordinated on site

We coordinate installation with the project programme so ductwork does not delay finishing trades, and run Mueller copper in runs of up to 30 metres without welded joints to reduce potential leak points.

  4. 4

    Start-up and maintenance contract

We start up the system and check air distribution in every section, then set a preventive and corrective maintenance schedule timed so work never overlaps with the shop's trading hours.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

Al Hazza'iyah is a relatively modern district with larger commercial projects and mid-sized malls set on spacious plots with room for outdoor units and ductwork. The buildings are less dense than central Jeddah, streets are wider, and that flexibility lets us design full central systems instead of multiple splits, reducing maintenance complexity and scheduled cleaning.

Al Hazza'iyah lies in north-east Jeddah, a modern commercial district mixing malls and retail projects with open floor plans.

Most modern malls and shops here run central air systems with ducts hidden in drop ceilings and condenser units sited on roofs or the south-east side.

The AC setup in Al Hazza'iyah

  1. 1

    Central system with hidden ductwork

Modern malls in Al Hazza'iyah have high drop ceilings that hide ducts, allowing uniform air distribution across floors and shops.

  2. 2

    Separate condenser units on roofs

Outdoor units are mounted on roofs or south-east sides, reducing visual impact and keeping ground space clear for customer parking.

  3. 3

    Smart central control panels

Larger malls benefit from automated controls that adjust temperature and humidity by foot traffic and time of day, lowering consumption and running costs.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Hazza'iyah

FAQ

Questions about Mall & retail HVAC

How do you handle doors that open onto the street all day?

An open door pushes in hot humid air and spikes the heat load suddenly. We include that load in the design and direct a supply outlet above the entrance to form an air barrier that reduces mixing. The survey confirms which arrangement suits each specific doorway.

Do you install separate units for each mall tenant?

Yes. A separate unit per tenant means each shop controls its own cooling and a fault in one unit does not affect the neighbour. It also makes consumption readings straightforward and makes maintenance responsibility clear for each party.

Why do you prefer rooftop packaged units for malls?

A rooftop packaged unit keeps the condenser and evaporator in one casing above the roof, freeing every inch of shop floor from outdoor units and shortening the duct run. Maintenance happens on the roof without entering the shop, which fits scheduling work outside trading hours.

How do you handle Jeddah's heat and its effect on rooftop units?

Rooftop units in Jeddah work in hot, salty and dusty air that strains the condenser and speeds fin corrosion. We specify units with corrosion-resistant coatings and include coil cleaning and compressor and condenser checks in the preventive schedule of every maintenance contract.

Does air distribution design differ between a small shop and a large mall?

The site survey decides. A small shop may need only a concealed unit with directional grilles, while a mall requires a duct network with dampers zoned by area. In both cases the positions of lighting, visitor traffic and entry doors are recorded before supply outlets are placed.

When can you service the mall without disrupting shops and customers?

We schedule maintenance in closed hours or low-traffic periods, and strip any unit quickly to minimise downtime.

Your large glass doors lose cooled air constantly, how do you hold the temperature?

We design central systems with balanced air distribution that compensates for loss at the doors, and use thermostats at multiple points to adjust the flow automatically.

Coastal humidity affects stock, what is your role here?

We select air handlers with high dehumidification capacity and clean coils and ducts regularly to prevent mould and excess moisture in storage and displays.

The mall roof is exposed to sun all day, do your outdoor units need extra protection?

We mount units in shade where possible and fit heat-reflective shields, and clean filters and coils monthly since dust builds up fast under direct sun exposure.
