When you need a retail HVAC specialist

  1. 1

A new mall or shopping centre

A poor design from the start means cold zones next to stifling ones and endless tenant complaints. We study the heat load of each zone separately and choose the right unit type before the ceiling is built.

  2. 2

An existing shop with uneven cooling

The back of the shop is cold while the front near the door stays hot at peak hours. The cause is usually the air outlet layout or the unit size; a site survey identifies which and fixes the problem without replacing the whole system.

  3. 3

Condensate dripping on shelves or display

A single drip on stock or a glass display front damages the product and the shop's image. The cause is usually weak insulation, a blocked condensate line or an unlevel unit, all of which can be diagnosed and fixed in one visit.

Who it's for

  • Opening a new shop inside a mall

We design an independent unit for your space and install ductwork and condensate lines before finishing work so your opening is not delayed.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Site survey and loads

We visit the site and map every heat source: entrances, lighting, expected crowd density and facade orientation, then size the units correctly for each section.

  2. 2

    Design and materials

We design the duct network in our own workshop from G90 galvanised sheet to dimensions that give even air distribution, and select units from brands we distribute such as Carrier, YORK and Gree.

  3. 3

    Installation coordinated on site

We coordinate installation with the project programme so ductwork does not delay finishing trades, and run Mueller copper in runs of up to 30 metres without welded joints to reduce potential leak points.

  4. 4

    Start-up and maintenance contract

We start up the system and check air distribution in every section, then set a preventive and corrective maintenance schedule timed so work never overlaps with the shop's trading hours.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

Al Rayyan is a mixed district combining small retail shops within residential areas, with streets wider than the old downtown but narrower than the new malls. The shops vary in size and need flexible cooling solutions, and often sit above or beside flats, demanding good sound insulation for the outdoor units. Coastal humidity and high heat increase the shops' need for regular maintenance to prevent water leaks and mould in storage and back areas.

Al Rayyan sits in east Jeddah, a mixed residential and retail district with varied-size shops scattered through residential neighbourhoods.

Most shops in Al Rayyan use separate split units or small distributed systems because the spaces are limited and the buildings vary in age and design.

The AC setup in Al Rayyan

  1. 1

    Separate split units per shop

Shops of varying sizes in Al Rayyan need independent units per shop, allowing flexible temperature control and cost management without affecting neighbouring businesses.

  2. 2

Small distributed systems in larger shops

Some larger shops use a small multi-zone system with one outdoor unit and distributed indoor heads, balancing heat control with cost.

  3. 3

Window units still serving very small shops

Some very small shops in Al Rayyan still rely on window units due to space and cost constraints, though they need regular servicing.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Rayyan

  1. 1

Coordinate with the shop owner on working hours

Agree on a visit time outside busy hours or when fewer customers are present to minimise impact on trading.

  2. 2

Check team access to outdoor location

If the outdoor unit is in a tight passage or on the roof, ensure the team can reach it safely before the visit day.

  3. 3

Bring the current water drainage plan

Show us where water currently drains from the indoor and outdoor units, and whether there is any leakage or pooling in back passages or storage.

FAQ

Questions about Mall & retail HVAC

How do you handle doors that open onto the street all day?

An open door pushes in hot humid air and spikes the heat load suddenly. We include that load in the design and direct a supply outlet above the entrance to form an air barrier that reduces mixing. The survey confirms which arrangement suits each specific doorway.

Do you install separate units for each mall tenant?

Yes. A separate unit per tenant means each shop controls its own cooling and a fault in one unit does not affect the neighbour. It also makes consumption readings straightforward and makes maintenance responsibility clear for each party.

Why do you prefer rooftop packaged units for malls?

A rooftop packaged unit keeps the condenser and evaporator in one casing above the roof, freeing every inch of shop floor from outdoor units and shortening the duct run. Maintenance happens on the roof without entering the shop, which fits scheduling work outside trading hours.

How do you handle Jeddah's heat and its effect on rooftop units?

Rooftop units in Jeddah work in hot, salty and dusty air that strains the condenser and speeds fin corrosion. We specify units with corrosion-resistant coatings and include coil cleaning and compressor and condenser checks in the preventive schedule of every maintenance contract.

Does air distribution design differ between a small shop and a large mall?

The site survey decides. A small shop may need only a concealed unit with directional grilles, while a mall requires a duct network with dampers zoned by area. In both cases the positions of lighting, visitor traffic and entry doors are recorded before supply outlets are placed.

My shop is above a flat, how do you handle noise from the outdoor unit?

We mount outdoor units on sound-dampening brackets and position them away from residential windows. We select low-noise units where possible.

The back passages are tight and hold moisture, does that affect the AC?

Yes, poor airflow and moisture in tight passages raise mould risk. We design strong water drainage and coordinate with the shop owner to improve natural ventilation where possible.

Does small-shop AC use a lot of power in intense heat?

It depends on shop size, goods type and lighting. We recommend fitting a smart thermostat and powering down during closed hours, cutting consumption without compromising comfort while open.

My shop is new but the building is old, can you fit AC without major changes?

We survey the space, walls and old wiring first. Most cases need extra cable runs or pipe rerouting, and we coordinate with the shop owner to minimise disruption.
